Depends on how many cards he has and the balances on them. Canceling a credit card brings down your credit utilization and is will actually hurt your credit. Given the fact that TC carries balances he might not be as impacted as someone that paid it off every month and never did

Tbh it's really best not to cancel a credit card if you don't have to. If it has no annual fee then there's no reason to do so

tbh it looks like Comenity "specializes" in retail-related credit cards (for example, Gamestop's is through them) and if the userbase is small I can see Capital One deciding it isn't worth hold on to.

Capital One actually goes out of its way to acquire retail related credit cards. They bought the Bass Pro credit card from Bank of America and recently acquired Wal-Marts which is why if Capital One sold it then it must be complete garbage and not worth anything
