Sounds like he's using a bit of autotune. Or multiple layering of his voice so it sounds more fuller. Meh.

nah, doesn't exactly work like that

What do you mean

There are very few musicians who can transcend genres and most of them can only do so in a fairly limited way, or at least not to the same level as others who are better at their particular craft. Even the absolute prodigies tend to be good but not quite as good as specialists are once out of their particular element. You simply can't reach the same level of mastery without focusing on a single discipline.

Take Chick Corea. Maybe the greatest living jazz pianist, or at least one of maybe 10-20 others. Could he play classical? Sure. Guy throws it into his improvisations quite often, and would have trained in classical to begin with. But could he play Ravel like a true classical pianist could, like say Martha Argerich playing Ravel, or Glenn Gould playing Bach? No. Not even close. Similarly, take either of those people and get them to even try playing a simple blues piece and watch their entire sense of rhythm fall apart. And watch how none of them can craft and play a pop song like Greg Phillinganes can. All totally different kinds of mastery, and not one of them able to beat the others at their respective crafts.

I'm not saying Rob Halford isn't great, but I don't know what "most talented across all genres" is supposed to mean. Like most powerful voice? Your average opera singer is more powerful. Biggest range? Again, classical performers have him beat. Can hold a note for a long time? This is more of a gimmick anyone can learn with a bit of practise, Michael Hedges would sing a note for almost a full 2 minutes in his gigs. Ability to continue singing well after pop musicians? Hardly a stretch, most pop musicians can barely bang out a note. Can do the most different styles of singing? Well I never thought Rob Halford had that much range to be honest, although this would certainly be a point over a classically trained musician.

I loath comparing musicians like this because I think it's against the entire point to be honest. Great to admire someone for their skill but I think it's a bit cheap to argue they could do anything better than anyone.

What I will say about Metal singers is they have a pretty uncanny ability to recover from absolute vocal torture night after night.

It's about energy. Playing shows every other day for 40+ years singing your ass off and being good at it. Making a bunch of albums and selling 100 million albums world wide.
