It adds inclusion which is important for a not-insignificant portion of the population that is being included. You likely don't care if it's important to them, because it's not important to you. But because it doesn't affect you, you instead have to get very upset that they are depicting a character the wrong way. If I was dating a Trump supporter, there are a lot of things I'd need to know, especially if she still was one. Because we're likely to disagree on a lot of things. I could date a Bernie supporter, hell, I've date conservatives before.
