Can I get a ticket for this? I live in California

Basically, I parked at this Bapist Church, barely any people there, plenty of parking, and I only parked there so I can rush to the gas station across the street real quick to get something(faster than driving there since I would have to drive up to make a u-turn), by the time I get back, which was no later than 10 min, this old man was standing in front of my car, so I was like "oh great" when I got to my car he was like " Why are you parking in private property!?" I just completely ignored the old man and drove off, I think he was recording me on his cell phone?

I don't get it, why get angry over something so stupid? Even if it is private property, I only parked there for like 10 minutes....and why record me?
