There are many folk who believe we are essentially cosmic coincidence. There are a myriad of reasons why folks believe in nothing. Although are you grouping atheists in or not? Some had bad experiences with the religion they were brought up in. Some just come to conclusion religion is myth. Not believing in religion, a god etc does not mean you believe in nothing, you do believe in something and thats god is not real and religion is a myth.

If they believe in nothing then anything can fill that void. There is a belief system they have and its absent a god or religion.

I talked to the clerk yesterday. She said they really cant say anything unless the customer has something to weigh since there is no scale in that line. My assistant (same one) agreed with the policy and said today it would lead to a fight, he said when he worked at a grocery store (he is close to sixty) you could tell customers to go to another line and folks had courtesy not to pull stunts like that.

I did pull out my boss voice at this point. I said I was hungry and wanted to eat since we paid for our food. I had a sense he was entering story time mode with the clerk. I told clerk I would be back Wednesday. We were really there just so I could get a hot meal and a large iced latte and a meal for today.

I am getting good with my boss voice with this assistant.

My grocery store has a cafeteria where if you buy a hot meal, a drink they make ie coffee latte, shake, donut you can have ten grocery items. So I go about three times a week for a hot meal and a large coffee latte with a few groceries.

I was with my assistant who just buys a drink and a hot meal. In front of us was a woman with at least 35 grocery items. She didnt take two items due to bags were open, one was chips the other fruit. In my 50 plus years going to this grocery chain have I ever seen a clerk put open bags on shelves. She also didnt buy a hot meal, a drink or donut.

The clerk said nothing to this customer about her abundance of items nor the open bags. I like this clerk and have dealt with her a lot since she started. I wanted to say there is a sign restricting what you can bring in line and I also wanted to say I would like to see security camera footage of how these bags got open, I cant imagine it was a stock person putting open bags on the shelf.

My assistant must have noticed I was angry. My concern was my hot meal of chicken and rice going cold. He whispered please say nothing.

While eating in the cafeteria he explained that the woman acted entitled. I said saying something would have been right thing to do. He said its almost impossible to win against folks thinking they are entitled and will just turn it around on you. They also feel no shame.

Would you have said something?

I went to the grocery store and my assistant parked in a handicap spot since I use a Walker. As we were leaving I noticed in front of grocery store n the sidewalk was a throw away mask, on the way to the car I noticed three total cars on the ground in the parking lot. I usually notice one but three is definitely high and it was just one small part of parking lot.

That is so disgusting and lazy. Do folks see this elsewhere or is this a New England thing. About 80 percent do wear masks in grocery store.

You slapped your HS teacher would your mom

Today at lunch I was talking to my assistant. We are both mid to late 50s. He said he used to teach but got sick of students behavior and their parents defending them.

I told him I have a retired teacher as a friend who taught for 40 years then the year she was slapped by a student she decided that was her last year.
This was 10 odd years ago. My assistant said if he had slapped his teacher his mom and dad would have killed him then apologized to teacher. I said my mom would have to.

We were both agreeing if we did something wrong our parents would take the teachers side thinking we did something wrong.

I told him in the early 80s I had a friend whose dad was a substitute teacher. A student cursed at him so he pushed the student against the wall, a teacher saw it and my friends dad was fired in five minutes.

I would not have dreamt of slapping my teacher since I knew my mother and grandmother would near kill me. In my retired friends case the mother said she must have instigated it and her child was on autism spectrum and her son was not to blame.

What happened? I cant believe my mother and his parents were outliers in taking teachers word. What was the cultural shift that changed it.

I am not talking about the water based pipe smoking but the traditional pipe smoking. The type where you put tobacco into the end and light it. I saw a person smoking a cigarette outside a store today and I realized I have not seen a person smoking a pipe for decades.

It used to be a stereotype of college professors smoking a pipe but that is a long gone stereotype.

I recall late 70s and for a few decades people would give the thumbs up sign using for I agree or good job. Its always been a common hand gesture I do. I still also give the double thumbs up when someone does a really good job.

Yet I noticed it seems to be fading away. Maybe its generational with those of us growing up watching Happy Days and The Fonz.

Also why do some many young people say cool as if they are describing a weather forecast? Totally annoys me, unless you are describing weather as in its a typically cool Fall day you should pronounce cool as if it had an extra o.

I was in my favorite grocery store today. They have a nice meals section where they make meals and a cafeteria to eat. I asked for their burger plate with onion rings. Their onion rings are so, so good. It has a nice light batter.

Last week I recall them saying they were out of onion rings. Today I was told they have not had onion rings for two weeks and a lot of folks are asking for them. The cook said he believes the droughts in Midwest are causing an onion shortage.

I ended up ordering their orange chicken with mashed potatoes and mashed squash. I then walked over to pay and ordered an ice mocha latte, The woman saw me and was in process of making it as I got in line,

The chicken was very good, along with the mashed potatoes and squash. I ate it at the cafeteria. My assistant got same thing.

So is drought affecting onion production?

He is only 50 and he looks so awful. He is charged with buying prescription drugs for himself that were under aliases and not prescribed to him. He also gave a false name when arrested.

I loved Buffy and its sad how life went so wrong for him although a lot is his fault.

I always liked their songs. They were simple, catchy but Phil and Don had such great harmony together. In some ways their music is the definition of Rock and Roll preVietnam.

Song writing as a duo they werent in the league that Simon and Garfunkel was but Everly Brothers wrote for a different audience.
