I was a heavy smoker and quit cold turkey two and a half years ago. Haven't had so much as a drag since. I just stopped one day, then pretended cigarettes/nicotine didn't exist. Whatever withdrawal symptoms or sickness I experienced I just treated in different ways other than relieving them with smoking more. Headaches? Ibuprofen and good hydration. Anxiety? Took it easy, took days off work here and there, took a lot of naps. Didn't push myself to do much I didn't want to. Stress? I treated myself to different things to help overcome it until the withdrawals cooled off after a couple weeks. Going out for good food, playing games all day, just spoiled myself to help ward off stress. Anything other than more smoking.

After a couple weeks I forgot what smoking was like and haven't craved it since. Cold turkey was the only thing that worked. Weening myself off by reducing intake, vaping, patches, none of it ever stuck. Quitting altogether at once helped motivate me to stay the course. Every day I stayed sober felt better and better. Both physically with how my body was feeling coming off it and mentally with how proud I was that I was finally kicking the habit..
