1/6 is one of the scariest. Not just for the potential implications of what could have happened that day. But everything that's happened since. How half the country is committed to memory holing, minimizing, or outright agreeing with what happened that day. How something that dangerous has essentially been swallowed by partisanship. How it hasn't been correctly identified as a fascist coup attempt. How it hasn't been thoroughly punished both as a political and criminal matter.

All of these things sow the very real seeds of a bad end for American democracy. It'll embolden people who think that any election they lose was stolen and so it's alright to actually steal elections in response or to think that using violence to do so won't be punished.

This idea that you can say anything and can't be criticized for it as long as it's presented as a joke or "shock humor" is poison. It's an obvious shield for trash people and even worse, it lets people mainstream legitimately harmful ideas by dressing them up as not serious or subversive in some way, rather than just hatred.

It's not "playing tennis." It's "competing in a worldwide event with a payout of over $1 million if she wins and probably just as much or more from sponsors." She can play tennis anywhere, any time if she's fine with less money. Part of the reason she's able to make that much money is because there is demand for public figure athletes who represent major brands and move tons of money simply through existing.

I doubt any of that money comes from speaking to the media specifically. It mostly comes from her and the other player's athletic prowess and the history of these events as the places where the best players play and prove themselves. Sponsorships and all that is a separate thing from answering rote questions from the media. It's all the anxiety without any of the money, plus a risk of a PR disaster.

The job of tennis player is to play tennis. That's what she actually wants to do, along with all other tennis players. All this other stuff is extra added by third parties. I've seen people repeatedly suggest that she just shouldn't live her dream and play tennis if she doesn't want to be forced to do unrelated media crap. That's ridiculous. Other people do it because they like the limelight or they don't wanna rock the boat or they want the money and don't care that much or they don't have the level of depression that she does. But that doesn't mean she should have to deal with this extra stuff if it harms her.

What you have in terms of questions are enough to write hundreds of pages about. I'd say to pick one or two of those questions that complement each other, maybe the costs of inadequate security and then what the government and companies should do to prevent that damage.

Then if you have someone to talk to in person, just talk to them about those questions, see what they have questions about, see what you say, and then write that. You'd say a lot over the course of that conversation, all you have to do is just cover those things systematically in a word document. The key that unlocked my writing was to think in that quasi-conversational writing and then write would I would say in a more formal tone and with sources. That's academic writing in a nutshell.

It is a system where only Jewish people have the right of self determination and where Jews and Palestinians/non-Jews have different legal rights and statuses that directly conflict, depending on the religious and ethnic group they're from. Sounds like apartheid to me.

Until Israel does not restrict legal rights and equality based on religion and ethnicity, they will be an apartheid state/ethnostate. The only question is whether that's somehow justified by necessity, religion, etc (hint:no). At the end of the day, the Jewish people are entitled to a place where they can be safe and secure. No group of people is entitled to supremacy anywhere over anyone though, and that's what Israel is in the process of securing.

It's a consequence of poor science education and a complete lack of faith in institutions, received knowledge, and gatekeepers. Plus like others say, some have religious motivations and most want to or benefit from feeling like they have secret knowledge that others are just too brainwashed to discover.

They're not a political party. They're not even just obstructionist. Did you read more than the blurb in the tweet? The article is not positive and talks about the policies that she is trying to move the party away from to be more mainstream. It is reporting, not participating.

She's a known fascist, we know what she wants to do because she's said it. This is simply her thinking she has a chance to win and so "moderating" her party's views. Courts much more frequently do stuff like this than they do Brown v. Board. They're inherently counter majoritarian and constantly take power and rights away from people on technicalities rather than protecting people from arbitrary actions.
