That precedence has already been set. Police have gotten away with unjust murder/ shootings forever.
Not like this. Not with this level of damning video evidence, consistent eyewitness testimony, and professional opinions of medical examiners and law enforcement professionals weighing in.

This is the most cut-and-dry a case like this has ever been. If this doesn't get a conviction, its safe to say absolutely nothing will

No matter what the verdict is, people need to respect the decision.
Why? A "not guilty" is essentially an admission that the system will allow police to execute people in cold blood, in broad daylight, for nonviolent offenses, just for being black.

Why in the hell should people respect that?

The drug OD defense is already really stupid, but even if it were true, wouldn't holding an unarmed man down for no reason instead of helping them still be extremely negligent? Pretty sure you could still make a case for that being murder.
really its the difference between a murder or manslaughter charge.

To be honest, what worries me is making any sentence stick. With how poor the defense is doing, I wouldn't be surprised if they're playing a long game.

Because the jury is compromised. This whole case was such a high-profile media frenzy that its likely impossible that any member of the jury isn't going into the case with a predetermined verdict. Either:

a) one of more jurors will hang thr jury by refusing to convict regardless of evidence, meaning chauvin walks

or b) they convict, and the case immediately goes to appeals, and likely gets overturned on the basis that the jury was compromised by media coverage prior to the case. Hell, they may even make the case that the threat of rioters burning the city down unduly intimidated the jury into voting to convict; and they'd have a case.

I really worry that all the fervor around the incident is going to really bite us in the ass.

Last Jedi is just straight up "you expected this? well we're not doing that JUST BECAUSE!" Its thoughtless in its subversion, contrarian for contrarianism's sake.

I'll be honest. I hate it. Pulls around the ears, breathing is hot and uncomfortable after a while. Not a fan. Bandanas are better, but less helpful. I'd never let my personal discomfort stop me from wearing one, but I don't like it.

TBH it was better in winter. Now that its getting hot and muggy again, though? much less pleasant.

I love both.

But star wars, any day of the week. Mainline Star wars has three good movies, four passable movies, and five bad movies.

mcu has more good and passable movies, but also more than 5 bad ones, too. from a sheer time investment perspective, I'm going to be spending more time watching the bad shit with MCU than I would with star wars. Besides, I dont have time to marathon dozens of mcu movies, anyway

I love the chao garden and actively want it to come back.

But it would have made sonic 06 worse.

Not only would it have all the lack of polish and buggies that plagues the rest of the game (arguably making it worse, as it would have ended up eating resources that currently went to fixing what we already have), but a key factor that made the chao gardens fun before isn't present.

see, the chao garden necessitates farming levels to get items for your chao, or rings to buy shit in shops. in the past, this has led to people replaying their favorite levels over and over, ironically inflating their love for the base game in support of the mini game.

In 06, there ARE no good levels to farm. You're gonna be playing and replaying an endless stream of broken, buggy, messes of levels, likely causing the inverse effect, as issues you were once able to tolerate grow to grate more and more.

Only if we also walk past the incredibly sus circumstances of women's rights to own property, invest, and inherit.

For those who don't know, Muhammed's first wife, Khadijah, was an older woman married to a very wealthy man before Mohammed, and used that wealth to establish a very successful caravan business. The establishment of Islam's stances on women owning property (something they were only permitted to do after the death of their husband) and inheriting wealth very coincidentally coincided with the time her prior husband died and she became set to marry Mohammed. Mohammed, naturally, went on to marry much younger women in the years following khadijah's death.

So even the progressive parts of the history are, sadly, rather sus.

More likely to just get a hung jury, in which case the case is a mistrial and we get to start all over again

I contend MASH still has the best dramatic moments in sitcoms.

Hawkeye's speech at the nurse's funeral. Col. Potter's toast to his dead friends. Most of the episodes with Sidney Friedman. Winchester in the finale. BJ after Radar goes home and sees his family. And that's just a couple of them. The series is rife with fantastic moments.

Then speaking with a mask afterwards to the press. Along wit the fact that this is a governor you think strolled in randomly to a packed clinic
Well, then I stand corrected. So long as you stand corrected on the "drive through vaccine clinic" argument.

That said, that doesnt eliminate the likelihood that the guy who rolled back mask mandates and reinstated "business as usual" policies probably went about without a mask, performing "business as usual" for days both before and after this event. And encouraged those in his immediate vicinity to do the same. And in so doing, openly invited infection.

Like I said even following your point about the clinic itself, there are still plenty of avenues through which he could have been infected. This is by no means evidence the vaccine was reaponsible.

I have a feeling @DarkBuster22904 will not be returning to address my question about how the guy supposedly caught this at crowded vaccine waiting room clinics in Montana
alright. fine.

I can tell you for a fact that there are plenty if clinics, hospitals, etc that do not use the "drive through" model. you go in, sign some papers, get your shot, and sit in a waiting room for 15 minutes so they can make sure there's no immediate reaction. Things are socially distanced inside (assuming its not trash), but outside, people are gonna people.

And just because Montana has a low population, that doesnt make it some desolate wasteland where everybody is perpetually ten miles apart from each other. Especially the governor, who, gasp, likely spends a lot of time in the more population-dense parts of the state. Whats more, if anything, the low population means a clinic is MORE likely to be packed, as the few people in the state have far fewer options of where to go for a shot, so they pile in.

And even IF I walk with you to the pier of "he was in his car, and nobody else was at the clinic that day..." the man still was probably galavanting about without a mask on for DAYS before that. Anywhere he went, the grocery store, a restaurant, his office, ran the risk of getting infected by a carrier. And as he's the man who rolled back all the safety measures, I find it highly unlikely he did anything to protect himself. And he encouraged the people around him to do the same.

Like it or not, there are PLENTY of reasons, ways, and places he could have gotten infected other than the vaccine. the man played stupid games to flex, and won a stupid prize.

It really doesn't make sense why Americans care so much about wearing masks.. Like it really doesn't matter and it can help stop the spread, it's so stupid how much energy goes into fighting about this.
pretty much. In plenty of other countries, people will throw on a mask if they're getting a mild case of the sniffles. No government mandates, no big uproars, no pandemic, no WHO recommendations, not even a doctor's visit. It's just considered a basic social courtesy. If you're sick, you do the world a favor and do your best to protect other people if you're out and about.

This whole thing has just been an indictment of selfish dicks being unwilling to stomach even mild inconveniences for the sake of being a decent person.

my point is this dude in bum fuck Montana goes a year without getting covid, gets the vaccine, and then tests positive for covid 2-3 days later after getting the vaccine. Considering it takes 2-3 days for symptoms to show that is certainly quite the coincidence mr swearengen.
he also strolled casually into a likely-packed vaccine clinic that day, surrounded by tons of people also trying to get vaccinated, any one of which could be a carrier. Presumably without a mask, considering his position and actions.

But you're right. the vaccine is definitely what did it.

I mean, even ignoring the "all religion is evil/for control" angle, Hell doesn't make sense even within the realms of christian doctrine.

I mean, Hell is straight up the most ludicrously overblown punishment imaginable. Eternity is a fuckin long time. Infinite time. after trillions of years, its not done.

There is no crime, or group of crimes, that warrants the worst suffering conceivable by all intelligence in the universe, for that length of time. Certainly nothing any single man could accomplish in one lifetime. Even if you were to take a genocidal madman, who wiped out all life in the known universe, and go full eye-for-an-eye (or worse) and sentence him to suffer proportionately to everyone he destroyed, or even for the duration of the lives he prematurely snuffed out, served back-to-back... eternity STILL keeps going. The crime STILL isn't big enough to fit the punishment. Eternity in hell is ridiculously overblown.

And if a bunch of drunk bozos in a Philadelphia bar can conclude that cruel and unusual punishment is a bad thing, surely a Supreme deity of love and mercy could, as well.

Unless of course God is evil (inb4), in which case, whats the fuckin point in worrying anyway? screwed either way.

then there's the whole shtick about the Bible never mentioning it (only a "lake of fire" for licifer and his followers at the tail end of revelations), and the fact that Dante basically invented it (and populated it almost exclusively with people he personally didn't like; its actually hilarious), and... yeah.

send me back

no point in waiting out the two years.

first, I'd probably go insane from loneliness. even a total recluse like me can admit that absolutely no human contact for the rest of my life would just be a slow degradation into madness. may take a while, but come it would.

the chances of meeting any of the other six survivors is incredibly low. if we were allowed to meet and coordinate, it may be possible, assuming any of us were on the same land mass. barring that, though, chances are pretty low. if it were possible, small group co-existence would be preferable. assuming co-operat8ve personalities, and barring the (quite real) chance we'd end up infighting and killing each other.

not to mention, its not like we'd be going back to an untouched world. of humanity really were eradicated by a virus over 20 months, its quite possible, even likely, we'd return to a blown-to-hell, irradiated shithole. Infrastructure destroyed, areas uninhabitable; the people of the world would undoubtedly do fucked up shit while we were gone that would make survival much harder.

add to that that any illness or injury requiring anything more than over-the-counter fixes or medicine (assuming there's any left) is likely to kill us. unless you or the literal one-in,a-billion other survivor you manage to reach happen to be medically trained. in which case you still lack medicine.

humanity is doomed anyway. rather have a bit more of my actual life and a swift end than a few years of playing the launch version of fallout 76 in real life
