Thing is though, there's a lot of cards that literally can't be played. Being forced to fold at every turn gets tiresome, and that applies to life in general, not just this one subject.

Now one might argue that it's better to take breaks than quit a game entirely, but remember that most of us play these things to unwind in the first place.

They *are* the break from whatever doldrum we were dealing with, and when they become a chore in one's mind, it's not necessary to put up with it if you don't want to.

Of course everyone varies in what they consider fun or intolerable, which is why even if one steps away from a game, we still try to be respectful of those who continue on. (You're still free to call your ex-husbandos or waifus a greedy bitch behind their back though.)

Only games I've dumpstered that I spent money on was AFK Arena and Arknights.

I just remind myself that my time is more precious, and that I can't be wasting it on something just because payment was involved. It's the equivalent of the hostage takers already getting the ransom, but still haven't returned your waifu, because she was the mastermind behind the whole thing and they're hoping to trick you into giving up more.

At some point you just rig their hideout to explode, bar the doors and windows, and walk into the sunset without looking back.

I understood the Junction System just fine, it was just poorly implemented.

For comparison's sake, Chrono Cross also had a similar "finite magic" system per battle, stats were even further hard-locked on your first playthough, and you're once again reliant on crafting to keep characters geared. Yet I actually had fun with Chrono Cross whereas it took me years to finish Final Fantasy 8 it was so obnoxious to play.

Ironically, both games also had incredible soundtracks, WTF plots, and literally useless party members. But gameplay kept CC from being a completely agonizing experience for me.

I had the same issue with FF8 myself for a while.

Got as far as after the Dollet mission, dropped it for literally years and eventually forced myself to finish it later with a GameShark to get it over with already.

To this day it's the only Final Fantasy I've beaten once and non-legitimately.
