Wow, dorm mother is an ecchi series that knows what it's doing. Frame 1 is exposed titty, nipple and everything. It's pretty dang ecchi. Been a while since I watched a genuine ecchi series and not just a series with occasional ecchi moments, I guess it's been since interspecies reviewers. Episode 1 was a fun time.

Tsukimichi seems decently watchable. The 2nd episode was fine. It's kind of like a worse slime isekai.

This is the surprising part though. Like, with how many people exist and how many write stories in various forms, how are we not overflowing with quality pieces? Theres got to be thousands of light novels coming out every year. If 1% are great we should have enough for like 100 great anime per year. Instead we get like 15-20 pretty good shows, 3-5 great ones, and one masterpiece every couple years. I guess I don't want to believe talent is really that rare.

And then like, how many man hours go into a 12 episode anime? Being extremely conservative and looking at a week per episode and employees working 40 hours a week (which is of course really lowballing it) with a decent production team you've got maybe 50 people? That's 2000*12 hours for a total of 24,000 hours being spent on something an amateur hacked out in a few months. It's just crazy. And I'm guessing the real numbers put it closer to 50,000 or even 100,000 hours

Honestly when you think of the hours involved in things that effect a large scale, it all gets hard to really wrap your head around..Like your car breaking down on a really busy highway might cost people a lifetimes worth of hours collectively if it causes a big enough delay. That has almost the same impact as murdering someone, just really spread out.

Watched 2 episodes today.

Spirit chronicles is the most straight forward power fantasy isekai I've seen in a while. Main guy OP at everything but boring, rich high society types all evil and mocking, and some supernatural conspiracy going on. The writing isn't good. It's isekai junk food but unlike most of that type, it takes itself completely seriously.

Battle game in 5 seconds I don't have a good read on. The artstyle is kinda weird and I can't decide if it's fine or bad. The writing is bad and the main character does not feel like a real human and didn't have the build and development to get away with acting absurd. The voice acting for the cat girl is actually the worst voice of all time. I despise it. The premise is inherently engaging though. Typical death game like btoom or darwin's game but thats an under-served genre and the main guys power is actually a nice twist. The ability he is given is that his ability works however his opponent thinks it works so as long as he can bluff well he could always pull off a win. No idea what restrictions it has since it's just episode one.

So the show as a whole is a mix of pretty bad and fairly interesting. I do think it'll end up being bad overall though. A decent premise still needs at least ok writing.

It's kind of insane to me that stuff with terrible amateurish writing becomes anime. When I think of the insane amount of effort and time thats put into bringing something like that to the screen...is that really the best they could find?

I didn't learn my lesson in Ys 8 and spent about an hour killing a bronto thingy that they told me to run away from cause I'd have no chance. Not learning paid off though because it stayed dead and I got plenty of drops and xp. Not an hours worth by any means, but I won. That'll teach the game to underestimate me. Given that I can only handle playing games for like an hour or two a day, I really wasted it all on this. At least some anime to watch came out in the last few hours.

Detective is dead is still bad. Remake is still decent. This season sucks although I guess I should be happy that a season that sucks still has like 5 watchable shows including a few good ones. I guess I'm just spoiled from the last two season.

Watched black company and..eh, I don't really like it. It kind of reminds me of episode one of combatants last season and that first episode was ass but after that it became good. I do not have the same faith in this one but I might give it one more episode.

Kanojo mo kanojo continues to be hilarious to me. Was kind surprised to see it rated so low where shit like vanitas and the detective one are rated pretty highly.

So far I'm pretty down on this season. It's not all bad, but a lot of its bad. Maybe once jahy starts and kingdom is back it'll feel a bit better.

Watched aquatope and the 2nd episode of peach boy. Peach boy is still fine but not great. Aquatope has freakin beautiful backgrounds and mostly looks great although the cgi for the fish is kinda meh. Ended up liking it a bit more than I expected to. Will keep watching for at least another episode or two.

Watched tsukimichi and dragon maid S episodes today. The first one is fine I guess. Practically speedran the isekai setup in like 2 minutes and main character seems strong enough that interesting combat isn't really something they are aiming for. More of a comedy angle I guess. Wasn't amazing, wasn't horrible.

Dragon maid S got that animation though. It's looking good. It was funny and yuri as always although I feel like they paced it poorly. The first half of the episode is a self contained funny thing and the 2nd half doesn't conclude so it feels like the ilulu part should have just been it's own episode and they could throw in another half length self contained bit with the maid cafe part. Also the damage tohru took looked weird. Like, thats not the kind of wound claws cause and then also the clothing just magically repairs off camera in like 1 second which maybe thats something that could happen in the show and I just forgot.

Trying to decide if I want to bother with the drugstore isekai. Might wait and see if the rating is good after a few episodes since I'm on the fence.

The detective is already dead also has a double length first episode that I just watched. It was ok I guess. So far I kind of feel like the writing is bad, as if the author knows where he wants the plot to go but isn't able to make it go those places believably.

But man, I'm not sure if I just watch too much hololive or these characters are really looking like em sometimes. The girl looks very much like fubuki even more so than vivy reminded me of suisei last season. Kept expecting her to say "waifu? no no no, friends" which wouldn't have been that out of character for siesta.

EDIT: Woah, upon looking up if anyone felt the same, apparently fubuki and matsuri will appear in that anime in episode 3 as themselves. If thats the case, theres no way the design wasn't intentionally like fubuki.

Yay slime episode is finally out. I feel the series is really starting to suffer from character bloat. They went through a whole episode and almost started having a meeting. I still enjoy it though.

I think it's especially good for shows like this where the setup basically takes an entire normal length episode or more so you get to actually see a bit of what the show is gonna be like.

Watched the first episodes of 2 more shows.

Spirit chronicles is generic isekai. Feels like amateur writing. It'll probably be one of the first things I drop if I feel like I don't have enough time. That said, there wasn't anything really wrong with it. First episode is more or less setup anyway so I think I'd have to watch episode 2 to really get a feel for it.

Remake is a bit more serious than I thought and has a double length first episode which I think was a good idea. Pretty solid though. Will definitely watch more.

Also kingdom is delayed for 20 days. Fucking lame. It was already delayed after episode 3 for a freakin year and then they STILL weren't able to keep up the schedule. Japan really needs to restructure how it handles production.

I too am not tired of isekai. Well really, I'm not tired of fantasy, and isekai is my price to pay to get it these days. They tend to be easy to watch.

Alright, so the next 2 new shows I tried were a lot better.

Realist hero seems at least somewhat interesting so far. I feel like anime does a good job of making large scale strategy and politics interesting but we rarely get to actually see that outside of mecha, for some reason. I guess slime actually has a decent amount. Main character isn't super interesting but he's not completely boring either. Show is roughly on par for my expectations.

Kanojo mo kanojo on the other hand was much better and dumber than I expected. The premise is already dumb, guy has a girlfriend but can't bear to turn down this other girls confession and asks them if he can date them both. What I didn't expect was for the main guy to be a fucking crazy person. He's got passion and honesty turned up to 11 and he is so over the top with everything. On top of that, the show knows it's absurd and just runs with it. We also get some light yuri vibes played for laughs between the girls which is fantastic. I could definitely see some people not liking it but this far exceeded my expectations and I can't wait for the next episode.

In game news I spent an hour killing an enemy they told me to run away from in Ys 8 only for it to not actually die and revive with full health. I get that you told me to run away but like, why let me do damage if I can't kill it? Kinda pissed cause it was pretty tough and could oneshot me easily with every attack so I had to perfect guard everything. Upon looking it up you can't kill it till chapter 3. Lame.

Final episode of spider is out. Only 1 week late so not as bad as it initially appeared and honestly it seems to be for the better. The fights in this looked less horrid than the ones in the previous 2 episodes (not that they are anything special). Spider certainly isn't a perfect series, but it is a compelling one, at least for me. I do hope we get another season (although it'd be nice if it was by a different studio with the same VAs).

I've seen 2 of the new shows now and I'm not impressed.

Peach boy riverside could be decent. The first episode was fine but nothing special. I'll probably give it another episode or 2.

Vanitas feels like bad fujo bait. Dropped already for me.

I'm hoping more than just the sequels are good this season.

Daughter of essence kind of works that way. You go on adventures and recruit/rescue people that come live in your hideout and you choose which parts to upgrade (annoyingly you can't upgrade everything). That's the closest thing I can think of. After playing it I was looking for something similar and couldn't find anything.

I guess kenshi works that way too but it's a lot less personal feeling, still a lot of fun though. It's more like a...sandbox rts I guess.

Just wrapped up the last anime of the current season which was nagatoro. Man, how did a show with that first episode end up being the sweetest romance anime I've seen in ages. It wrapped up with pure diabetes. I hope theres a 2nd season although even if there weren't, it'd be fine to end it there.

Watched the Wonder Egg Priority special just now. Disappointed in how it turned out. It was clearly rushed, didn't answer any questions, and raise a whole lot more while ruining one of the main characters.

The reception for that seems to be very poor. Makes you wonder why they bothered.

Wrapped up the final episode of max level witch. I'm gonna miss it. Blue dragon and demon king are best girls. I hope it gets a season 2.

I still have nagatoro's last episode to watch. Looks like some stuff starts on the 1st so I won't have to wait too long for some new stuff. The season overall looks kind of meh outside of sequels but theres so much that could be decent that I'm hoping for a few pleasant surprises even though I expect most of it to fall flat.

Man kingdom is hilarious sometimes with how over the top they can be about some things. The latest episode was like 15 minutes of two generals talking the most ridiculous trash. In some ways it kind of reminds of jojo in that aspect.

This week in general is the dull weak though. Half the shows or more ended a week ago and nothing new starts until next week. Oh well. I hope next season has some surprises. Theres like 10+ isekai so hopefully at least 1-2 are good.

Man, the spider anime is such a shit production. They had to delay an episode for a week midseason and now the very last episode that should have aired today is "delayed indefinitely" do to production issues. What?!? The last 2 episodes also had exceptionally shit CG even for the show. Well, it is the studio behind berserk 2016 so I guess failure should be expected.

Finished up saint from this season. I feel like it got worse in the last few episodes. The show was more fun when it was sei randomly being good at stupid stuff like brewing tea or cooking or gardening. The last few episodes were more plot focused but the plot is really boring and they seem to have settled onto romance with just one person which is also uninteresting. Not like it's completely terrible, but I'm not sure I'd watch a season 2.

It was the "pop" video and the "ara ara backwards" that somehow got over a million views out of nowhere. She doesn't seem to have significantly more average viewers in the pokemon streams compared to other stuff. She also got shouted out by a few of the clip channels for hitting 50k so that probably spiked up a bit there as well. It's just weird that it happened so suddenly over nothing special. Those 2 videos aren't any better than her other ones, they just happened to get blessed by the algorithm,

For some reason I forgot about combat agent and it's last episode just aired. That show really grew on me. It's first episode was abysmal but after that it basically got better every week. After finishing the last episode I just wish I could watch the next one, but there won't be for at least a while. It's still not quite as good as konosuba but still good and requires less attention to watch.

So basically every comedy this season started off bad and got great, and every action show started off great and got worse except for I guess 86, it stayed pretty good.

I wonder what day the new anime I care about starts for next season.

Yuuka that I watch a lot also suddenly shot up to over 50k outta nowhere. I feel sorta mixed when a small vtuber I like gets popular, because chat gets much harder to respond to, so watching becomes a different experience.

The demon "king" in max level witch is the best. I'm truly sad theres only one more episode left now. Only one more week until this season is over. At least next season will still give me my yuri fix with villainess S2 and dragon maid S2. I should actually look through the new anime for next season and see if theres any more yuri. I guess blue reflection is still going and thats as close to yuri as you can be without actually being yuri.

Final episodes of 86 and Vivy aired. Vivy still makes zero logical sense which is still a shame.

86 is fantastic though. I can't wait for season 2. Somehow each of the last 3 episodes hits like a truck individually. Kinda feels like a gen urobuchi story but aside from the fact that the republic is terminally stupid, everything else makes more sense than a lot of his stories. Animation is top tier for the fights.

Spider is pretty good but the CG can be pretty awful at times. The human half of the story is also super boring because shun and pals have nothing to them. This latest episode (23) was especially bad CG. Kind of a shame. I still like the show a lot though. Looking forward to it finishing next friday although the story as a whole clearly would need at least a season 2 if not more to finish.

As the season draws to a close I feel kind of disappointed. A lot of the shows with a great start got worse. The only thing I'm watching that stayed the same or got better IMO is max level witch and nagatoro which both started fairly weak but actually got pretty decent.

Meanwhile, Vivy was a huge let down. Your eternity had one of the greatest openings episodes of all time but became significantly less impactful after that start. It's still decent but just not nearly as good as the start.

Megalo box started off with a drug addicted depressed Joe and it was great, but then everything turned around it became meh.

Spider was at it's best when spider was struggling and leveling. The overall plot outside of that is interesting enough to make me wanna watch, but nothing spectacular and the CG for anything involving humans and action is horrendous.

86 has probably held up the best but the republic is so stupid on a tactical level that it's just hard to suspend your disbelief. The action scenes in it are amazing and the visuals at times are breathtaking. The characters and pacing and story telling are all pretty good too. I think 86 is my anime of the season.

And then blue reflection ray I still think is better than the abysmal rating it has, but it's not that good either. Especially around episode 8 or so it got pretty bad. It's picked up somewhat since then at least.

Slime slice of life got boring. There's nothing wrong with it and it's exactly what it's advertised to be but I got bored.

I'm now caught up on Vivy and the plot holes have kind of spiraled out of control IMO. I'm surprised the rating hasn't tanked. We learn that the singularity project was just as dumb as it looked like it was and they all just missed the obvious.

They set out to change future events that would lead to the war between AIs and humans, but they never had any fucking clue why the AIs went berserk. All of the things they changed of course were completely pointless and had nothing to do with why the AIs went berserk and they never thought to check the literal system that controls all AIs software.

Additionally, at the end of episode 12 they just straight up cause a time paradox. By not saving Osamu in the 3rd timeline (for no fucking reason, they made it to toak with plenty of time in 2nd timeline) it means they didn't prevent Osamu from sending back Vivy's data which should shut her down immediately based on what we've already had explained to us but they just don't have that happen for no reason.

The AI mainframe also makes no sense at all. Vivy learning creativity would further prove what the mainframe was saying, not refute it. If AI can even create at the same level as humans, then humans would truly be obsolete.

The mainframe also had the ability to stop Vivy and more importantly matsumoto right from the start by targeting and killing osamu earlier which was before Vivy inspired the mainframe to give her a chance to sing.

Given what we now know, theres no way to save humanity without drastic alteration of the timeline so they might as well send back matsumoto and just have him show the government what happens if you make an AI calculate the future with the goal of improving humanity. He has video evidence and can easily prove he is from the future.

Why is beth better at combat than any of those random goons, in fact, why don't the random goons have a better combat routine than even Vivy if the mainframe has superior specs to matsumoto? Why don't they back up AI data in the first place? It's shown to be circuitry and you can download an exact replica of it as in beth's case. This makes the situation with kakitani's piano teacher dying ultra stupid cause they could just download his data into a new body.

Why a lot of things. When the story primarily focused on some mission, you could kind of ignore the overall plotholes, but now we are at the endgame and it's all about the plot but the plot is just so dumb. It's kind of triggering me to see so many people praise the plot in comments.

I'm catching up on Vivy now and it's kind of frustrating how good it almost is. Most of it's great. An anime original with great animation, voice acting, action scenes, philosophical questions handled in interesting ways. However, the actual surface level plot has such massive holes that it just doesn't make sense and it's frustrating because I feel like they could have written the story to not have these massive plot holes without changing all that much.

For an example. The metal float. Their plan was to go in destroy the software running the AIs there...but it's fucking data, theres no way there isn't a back up and even IF there wasn't they made that whole software and island in less than 5 years, they could easily do it again. That was the dumbest plan of all time. They didn't even intend to damage the island itself so realistically it'd be operational again in like a week.

Of course thats not the only plot hole, there's major ones in virtually every episode and it's just such a shame because I feel like it undermines the otherwise well implemented story and setting.

I don't remember which announcements came from which conferences but when they announced sekiro and ghosts of tsushima I was pretty hyped. I think it was E3 2018. Not all that long ago really.
