It has nothing to do with what George Floyd did in his life.

It has to do with the fact that he was, for a long while, the most prominent image for the movement against police brutality against black people. He's the "poster child" for it. You literally can't make fun of his death without making light of the problem because it's literally how/why he died.

Ok, I get now that you're saying it had nothing to do with him specifically, but because of the movement afterwards that was using him as their standard.

I can also see where we're still going to disagree here. I don't think making fun of how he died is making light of the movement. That would be like saying he only matters because of the movement, as if you can't separate the two. If you can admit all life is special and his death isn't simply tragic because of the movement afterwards, then you must also admit there's a chance that this joke had no ill will toward the movement itself. It has to be one way or the other to me, either you can separate the man from the movement or you can't.

Again though, I will say if the person in question was showing any negativity toward the movement itself(not specifically what they've done), then I will apologize and accept it to be racially motivated.

I know a lot of people debate about what is and isn't racially insensitive, however one thing most typically agree on, myself included, is that racially insensitive =/= racist.

From what I understand, you're using racially insensitive in this manner because of what George Floyd did in life, but do we have any proof that the person in question even knew anything about him other than how he died?

I'm not debating you on the insensitive part of that, because it was, but I truly don't get why race is being brought into this. Call me ignorant if you wish, but I don't understand why his race matters unless there was some kind of proof that it had anything to do with it.

That is not the case at all, which I very much made clear. I think for it to be racist it has to be targeted at or done because said person happens to be Black. You can't just say "this person was black and that was negative so it's racist".

That I do not agree with. Making fun of his death is just making fun of someone who died. It's not right, but it has nothing to do with what they did in life unless I see proof of that. They wanted to make a "take my breath away" joke and used him because of how he died. Again, I don't like it, I don't think it's right, but I don't see it having anything to do with what the man did in life. If there were some connection to where this person spoke negatively about what they did in life, then I would be willing to agree with you, but all I see is a stupid joke and he was just the person they thought of first.

Maybe there is something I don't know about that would prove they did it with some type of malice toward his life decisions, but I don't see it currently.

Making a joke about the death of a man who has been one of the leading images behind the messaging about police violence against black people for a stupid dance poster is certainly racially insensitive. If you can't figure out how, you're either sheltered, ignorant, or just don't care.

Or you're looking for a problem where there isn't one. I said the joke was in poor taste, if you want to take it further and say there should be some kind of ramifications for it ok, but race really had nothing to do with it. The fact that she made a joke about someone who's Black doesn't mean it was done BECAUSE he was Black.

If you're going to be against something, at least be against it for a legit reason.

Eh, it's certainly in poor taste, but I wouldn't call it racist. There's no evidence I see that would lead me to believe they wouldn't have made the same in poor taste joke had he been white.

Now, if you want to talk about racist, I definitely see that in some of the complaints aimed at her.
