I've been experiencing it like once a year or so for as long as I can remember. Can't recall ever hearing a voice during it though.

Throughout the years I've gotten progressively better at recognizing when it's happening, and then gradually 'willing' my body out of its sleeping state. The trick is to just stay calm and focus on the reality of being awake.

It sometimes kind of feels like a more uncomfortable version of Fight Club, in the sense that eventually you're not really sure who is in on the Cable Guy's schemes, like who does him favors because he's providing them with free cable (or blackmailing them).

Aside from Metal Gear Solid 2 ("Raiden, turn the game console off right now!") and Fallout: New Vegas's Vault 11 (The sacrificial chamber), my #1 WTF moment was from a relatively unknown game:

Betrayal in Antara.
It's one of my favorite games ever since it first came out in '97, though it was only a little over 2 years ago when I first discovered the origins of the Feeblepox (a plague that is unimportant to the gameplay and main plot, though its origins and nature are quite a mystery in the story). This, so it's kinda weird to post about it now, though interestingly, a relatively recent Dutch party called Forum for Democracy also claimed to be 'beyond left or right', though they quickly turned out to be populistic right-wing. A few months ago it pretty much fell apart due to its leader failing to condemn anti-semitic and racist outings within its own party (and even seemed to be fine with them to a degree).

It's not unheard of that every once in a while a new party pops up, acting like it's the big new thing that's gonna change everything and claiming it's beyond 'box-thinking' as 'left' and 'right', but most of the time such parties turn out to very clearly think in a specific box that already exists and lost popularity for a good reason. Just like with the 'Centre Party'.

Although Im all for durable and environment-friendly developments, electric windmills and solar panels are not going to be nearly enough to meet humanitys energy demands. For now, the best course of action is to generate more nuclear energy.
The fact that fission and eventually fusion energy can be developed in this area means there is a lot of potential for industrial development. Yes, it is not a 100% without risk, nor is it 100% environment-friendly, but it is significantly more so than our current dependency on fossil fuels.

GAMES

Characters dependant on critical hits are inferior to DPS and tanks. Better to have the certainty of knowing how much damage youre going to cause rather than hoping for the best.

Mass Effect 3: The extended ending was fine and satisfying enough. I feel like people who complain about lack of seeing the result of your choices throughout the trilogy have been skipping/sleeping through the story during the game itself.
Also, Paragon Control is utilitaristically the best possible ending, both at that moment and long term.
Also also, the indoctrination fan theory is silly and even more ridiculous than the original ending.

FILMS

Godfather 3 > 2. Although 2 wasnt bad or anything, it just doesnt stick with me nearly as much as 1 and 3.

Cloud Atlas is an excellent work of art. Easily the Wachowskis masterpiece.

SERIES

Star Trek: although I love VOY and cant get enough of it, its major downside (aside from being episodic) is the lack of character growth: the Doctor is pretty much the only main character that clearly develops as a character. All the others are pretty much the same person they were as when they first appeared. And yes, there have been many episodes focusing on Seven Of Nines development, though the next episode the series seems to disregard any developments and shes as robotic and antisocial as ever. Even Icheb and almost any other named minor Borg character show more personality.
Also, ENT season 3 & 4 is some of the best Star Trek stuff ever made.

Breaking Bad is mostly boring and depressing (and not in a good way).

MUSIC

Rap has categorically sucked every since gangster rap was invented and somehow managed to infect the entire genre with its violence, misogynism and materialism, not to mention the infantile moves, clothing and way of speaking really limits it to childish/adolescent phases.

The second half of the twentieth century was truly the golden age for music in general. There is so much good stuff to be found in various genres, and the fact that every era has moderate and minor hits that are mostly forgotten ten years later means that there are always more shiny jewels to be unearthed.
After the early 2000s though, music in general took a deep nosedive. There are still decent songs made every now and then, but very few artists these days are consistently good.

POLITICS

There should be an obligatory test for everyone who wants to vote, in order to ascertain how aware they are of political/societal/scientific developments. The results of that test should determine how much value someones vote has. That way democracy is less susceptible to fake news, clickbait and other misinformation influences, and its both more fair and effective than censoring unfounded claims or adding this claim about election fraud is disputed.

We should focus much, much more on space travel and alternative extra-terrestrial habitats for humanity. If we wait for humanity to get its shit together, itll be too late and well have too few resources to get out there, basically dooming humanity as sooner or later giant meteor is going to hit Earth, if any of the other thousands of doomsday scenarios doesnt wipe humanity out first. Spreading out into space and creating new colonies at the very least increases humanitys chances of survival.

SOCIAL

The three-kisses greeting is weird and awkward, and I hope it goes out of fashion thanks to the Covid era.

Sex: I dont get sub/dom powerplay. It makes no sense to me and I dont associate with either. I think its weird and people are insulting themselves and each other (and not in a good way).
Same goes for butt stuff. That place is exit-only.

Cultural appropriation is a silly thing to get worked up about. Theres nothing wrong with adopting another cultures habits or traits if they appeal to you. Forbidding people from doing that is basically no different than saying one gender cant do something because its associated with the other gender.

Really depends on my mood, though Xena was generally more adventerous and dramatic while Hercules was more 'family-friendly'. Loved the shit out of it though. For Halloween, I once even dressed up as Ares, God of War. The ladies loved the leather outfit.

I live in the Netherlands, where as far as I can find, the democratically elected government has always consisted of a coalition of at least two parties - never has a single party gained enough votes to form an absolute majority.

The current government in the Netherlands consists of a four-party coalition, the largest of which is a conservative liberal party (VVD) that favors large international corporations, big banks and the free market. It has been the largest party for a decade now and it looks like they'll remain the largest party after the general elections next year.
I think there are three main reasons for this:

• Over the past decade the VVD has shifted from right-wing to sort-of center and somewhat less conservative, due to its tactic of trying to please everyone and make compromises to an extent.
• Two populistic right-wing parties have gained popularity in the past several years, and a lot of people who don't support them really, really, really do not want either of those two in the governing cabinet, let alone become the largest party, so they'll throw in their lot with the only other party that has a chance of being top dog.
• As far as covid countermeasures go, the government has actively set up measures to slow the spread, though so far there has been no actual lockdown, nor does it seem likely that one is going to be implemented any time soon.

There are also progressive and/or left-wing parties, some of which I hope will gain enough votes to make an impact. However, I do think that it would work in their benefit for some of them to fuse, as there are just too many of them right now to form a solid force, and some really aren't that different from each other. Besides, the current political landscape in the Netherlands is divided enough as it is, with no less than thirteen parties currently holding seats in the Dutch House of Representatives.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for democracy and different movements providing different ideas, though I think too many cooks in the kitchen tend to result in making so many compromises that the end results are unsatisfactory to anyone.

Fortunately, the situation doesn't seem nearly as tense as it seems to be in the US. For one thing, it perfectly conceivable that two opposing parties can agree on some legislative proposals, without their supporters all reeing about it.

I tried mods. Mods didn't work (my game crashed every ~30 minutes). Since then I've played it for 2 hours on vanilla without any problems apart from stuttering, so unless something major happens, I'll carry on on PC

There are a bunch of performance-increasing mods. These ones are some of the most used mods, since they prevent alot of unnecessary crashes.

It won't solve stuttering/crashing 100%, but it sure makes the game a lot more playable.

Initially, that was indeed quite common for as long as humanity has been around. Over the last two centuries however, humanity has grown exponentially, and with it, a higher demand for food, especially in the more luxurious civilizations. The meat industry grew bigger and bigger. More livestock had to be bred and grown faster.

Maintaining continuous generations of so much lifestock is taking its toll on the environment, due to the resources that are required and the pollution it causes.

Then of course there's the matter that a lot of this lifestock is forced to live in painful, confined, stressful conditions, their young taken away to be raised and slaughtered as soon as they've matured enough, or just killed off right away if they happen to be a gender that's not in high demand (usually males).

The reason that there is so much livestock today, is because humans have bred them to such numbers. If there would be a new way to produce meat, without having to continuously slaughter animals, then there'd be no need for that much lifestock. After a generation, the various lifestock species can shrink back to smaller numbers (much like with horses, when cars became mainstream).

This will also significantly reduce the strain on the environment, which in turn is better for all of humanity and life in general. This is the change that cultured meat could bring.

Well put. And this way both meat-eaters as well as vegetarians/vegans who really miss the taste of meat can have all the meat they want.

I tried going vegetarian in the past, but it's like my body just screams for the taste of meat every now and then. On top of that, some animal products are actually quite healthy (especially eggs and salmon) and contain a good supply of essential vitamins and minerals.
So for now I stick to eating meat a few times a week (as a balance between every day or none at all).

I heard/read about this throughout the years. Glad to see it's getting somewhere. It may look like just another eco-friendly fad to some, but I genuinely think this could grow to become one of those things that actually makes the world a healthier place. Hell, this could even make the difference for some countries in achieving their Paris Climate Accord goals.

Will definitely be keeping an eye on this. Might invest in it once more places are allowed to sell it.

Basically this. The audience had to have it spelled out for them that Palpatine/Vader/the Dark Side were in fact the bad guys. I get the feeling this 'spelling it out for the audience' is a thing that grows increasingly more obvious as time passes, like how in more recent Star Wars things like The Old Republic the Empire is like this human nationalist group who make no secret of how racist they are to non-humans.

Although the Imperials in the OT all seemed to be human, I don't recall any occasion where anything racist was uttered to a non-human sentient, yet even as a kid I understood that the Imperials were supposed to be the bad guys.
