Wonder why it wasn't a big success?

I don't have a definite answer, but I hear a lot of things:

- PS2 had a DVD player, hence it was the cheapest DVD player at the time.

- Not enough 3rd party support.

- Games were super easy to pirate, and you could play any burnt copy of a game no problem on the Dreamcast.

-Release date? It came out after the PS1 and before the PS2, after the N64 and GC, plus Xbox coming out of nowhere didn't help either.

Such a shame, because the DC shared some games with the PS2 and Xbox, and the differences were slight.

Definitely an underrated system, so much power packed into a small box. Such a shame Sega finally hit their stride in terms of hardware, only to be killed off.

A built-in modem, the VMU... the thing was ahead of its time.

That VMU was amazing, it was a memory card, a tiny handheld device where you could play mini games, and can connect to other VMUs to transfer saves or trade stuff like unlocked characters in MvC2.

I also thought it was neat how it would actually show stuff on it during gameplay, like your chosen character animating whenever you attack in Soul Calibur, or actually contributing to gameplay like showing your health status and how many bullets you have left in the Resident Evil games.

Was it Oblivion where you could get infected with Vampirism, and you had to gather ingredients to concoct a cure? I remember breaking into houses and feeding on people while they're sleeping lol.

Another memorable moment was when I got approached to join the Dark Brotherhood. I slept at a random inn, and right when I woke up, the first thing I see when the screen fades back in is the recruiter. Seeing this creepy looking guy in dark robes paired with the zoomed in camera during conversations right when I wake up scared the fuck out of me lol
