True the original trilogy overdid it with needing to rescue Mary Jane and her constant screaming, but homecoming made me realize why a damsel in distress or anyone to rescue is important. It makes the stakes higher and shows the hero's selflessness. The difference between a superhero just saving his own skin and saving someone else is astronomical.

I can separate some of them sometimes. I'm more willing to do so if the artist came from centuries ago when bad attitudes were more common.

But people like Mel Gibson or Kevin Hart, I'm never going to see any of their crap. They're just terrible people. (Ignoring how untalented I think Hart is anyway)

I watched An American Werewolf in London a few weeks ago as part of my annual October horror marathon. What happened to Vic Morrow and those two children was a case of negligence, not murderous intent. If the testimony of the crew is accurate, Landis probably should have been prosecuted for it. But he does his best to rationalize the event as an unavoidable accident.

It's really easy. I listen to Lost Prophets. Puck is one of my fav characters on Glee. I can enjoy the product while thinking the artists are pieces of shit.

Start Something from LostProphets was perhaps my most listened to album of all time. I'd originally mentioned it in the post, but deleted it because it was getting pretty long-winded as it is. When word got out about the lead singer being a child rapist, I found myself unable to listen to any of their songs again. I'll occasionally find myself humming some of their tunes, but I've never gone back and listened to them again.

Bram Stoker was a fervently racist man, yet I still admire the story of Dracula and would like to see a faithful film adaptation made. On the other hand, I want to see H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu spit roasted on a fire and never spoken of again. It's easy to say when I've never read any of his stories and when the idea of a giant with an octopus head doesn't really appeal to me. (Seafood! How frightening!) I guess I do begrudgingly owe him some small debt in that, without Lovecraft, there never would've been Ghostbusters.

I've only watched one Roman Polanski film, The 9th Gate. I didn't know he was the director until I saw his name in the closing credits. Had I known he was the director, I wouldn't have bothered with it. I'm always curious about his films -- Chinatown in particular. Yet, I never want to give two hours of my life to a man who drugged and raped a 12 year old. Nor do I think any film quality could ever make me forget it if the director were a literal child rapist. I'd disown even The Godfather or Citizen Kane were such the case.

In some cases, one must separate the art from its own subject matter. Gone With the Wind is a film I've seen in the theater five times now. Yet I'd scarcely blame anyone who turned the story down on principle. I despise its revisionist history too, but it has great character performances and some of the highest production values of any film ever made. And it's easy to find a pallet cleanser if I want to see Union soldiers defeating Confederates or empowered Black protagonists triumphing against racist shitheads.

I don't have consistent rules for it. I don't know anybody who does. It's not quite hypocrisy. That would be making a pretense of it. But it's a curious thing how one artist gets the scorched earth approach and another is subject to far less scrutiny.

I just completed the original Ghouls 'n Ghosts trilogy about two hours ago.

Ghost 'n Goblins (NES)
Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Sega Genesis)
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Super Nintendo)

I gotta say, I'm getting better at the final castle. Last Halloween season, it took me two and a half hours to beat it on the second quest -- the one where you need the goddess's bracelet to advance. This time, I beat level six in under half an hour.

Marvel has no female characters worth a damn besides Carol Danvers that aren't She-Hulk, or associated with X-Men, Fantastic 4, or Spider-Man. Aka stuff they didn't have when they made Captain Marvel. They can't make any Hulk movies because paramount still owns distribution rights. The next most popular Female character would be Kamala Khan who is nice and all but nowhere near the list of influence as Carol.

Scarlett Witch and Black Widow both would've made for more interesting protagonists. So would Valkyrie.

1) People dislike her taking the name of the original Captain Marvel.

2) Marvel virtue signaled hard with this one. ("Hey, everybody. Captain Marvel is our strongest superhero ever and a true icon. We're totally not over-compensating for a lack of female superheroes up until this point.")

3) Brie Larsen is pretty toxic in interviews.

4) Yeah, incels are a thing. Even a film like Alien would get a backlash today for daring to have a strong female lead.

5) There were more interesting female characters who could better occupy the Top Female Superhero role. Like, just about any of them.

I changed the username to Skyeblazer shortly before closing it. I wanted to change it to Skyblazer, but someone had beaten me to the punch by a few days. I'm an impulsive person like that.

Maybe I'll be back with a new main at some point instead of showing up under alt accounts. But I can assure you the Tifa controversy had nothing to do with closing my account. I stand by my comments and, though my rant was not meant to be a copy-pasta, I find it mildly amusing and mildly flattering that people saw fit to save it and repost it from time to time.

Incidentally, I read a rumor that Hello Nurse is not returning for the Animaniacs reboot. Just more of the anti-sex "only certain body types are okay" attitude that's caught on like wildfire in recent years. I still have a lot of disdain for that kind of attitude.

And I don't apologize for my comments on Tifa. She needed a better overall design in the remake; starting with but not limited to her bust. The programmers of the remake just wanted dead girl Aeris to be the star over her. She never will be.
