Obviously any human being should have some level of empathy, a human life is precious and even an irredeemable person likely has loved ones, but at the same time, a person shot by the police who get away with it because of racial bias, an unjust police culture, a complicit media, a sadistic and racist culture, and a capitalist system that relies on putting away the symptoms of poverty to give the illusion of society functioning, treating impoverished communities like occupied territories, enriching prison industry and providing cheap labor, etc. with someone actually fucking lashing out against that by hurting someone who voluntarily chooses to take the role of an oppressor is fundamentally flawed logic. If you volunteer to be a soldier, or a cop, you are volunteering to place your life in danger in order to uphold the current system. If that system is unjust, you cannot expect people to reasonably mourn people lashing out against you the same way that it can be expected in reverse. Those who have authority, and those who have power, must have a counter balance of responsibility that they are taking on, or why do they have it? Civilians cannot be expected to both grant you authority, but expect no accountability. That said, I have nothing but thoughts and prayers for the loved ones and family members of these police officers, and I hope they pull through and change their careers." |

It is why Trump dislikes dead WW1 soldiers, or John McCain. To him, they didn't make a good deal. They served their country, and what did they get out of it? death and torture, he sees them as weak for not being self serving enough to know not to make such a bad deal. It is why he doesn't want his hair to get wet or blow in the wind, he can't handle looking weak. He almost didn't want to name his child Donald Trump Jr, in case he was a loser. Facism also requires people constantly feeling besieged, and afraid, so the idea that Trump wants anyone to feel calm is obviously untrue, he just would prefer you focus your anxiety on communist Joe Biden, antifa, BLM, and looters. |

| GentlemanGamer 09/12/20 10:28:43 PM #411 | Didn't see anyone else mention this, but Gavin Newsom signed a bill in California to finally allow prisoners who take part in the firefighter program to pursue firefighter as a profession when they finish serving their time. Previously, this was not allowed, and in fact when Kamala Harris was AG in California, her office actually argued that they could not keep up with the supreme court ordered reduction in prison population because then they wouldn't have enough firefighters (although she claims to have been unaware of the office arguing this). The bill does exclude people accused of certain felonies, such as arson, which I think is a shame. An arsonists path to redemption being through fighting fires would be quite the journey. |
