I like Sterling, but he's a lot less cool than he used to be. The dude went from legit anti-establishment to using it as a bad gimmick regardless of whether a AAA game is actually good or not, and these days he refuses to say what these games actually do well. It reeks of manipulating the youtube algorithm for clicks.

Like no one who is being intellectually honest can call Cyberpunk one of the ten worst games of the year. Ten worst launches maybe, but a lot of the problems are already fixed.

He's been going on about CDPR's dishonest reputation as pro-consumer, highlighting the crunch environment that's been going on behind the scenes, and the review... scandal's not quite the right word, but it was also dishonest. It's less that the games are necessarily bad (some definitely are), and more that he's highlighting something he dislikes about the industry.

How was everyone's Christmas dinner? (If you don't celebrate Christmas but you do celebrate another holiday with a big dinner, post about that.)

I made a pot roast from Omaha Steaks (I had gift cards from work), and my mother delivered some potato dumplings. It turned out well because it's hard to screw up a pre-cooked pot roast when you toss it in a Crock Pot. My brother had his daughter over, but she refused to eat either of the items (she's 4 1/2, and every bit as picky as I was). She did, however, eat candy and cake.

We were going to have biscuits and green beans to go with dinner, but my bad planning left us without a baking sheet and my brother decided that my niece wasn't going to touch the green beans. I'm slightly upset at myself because my niece might have gone for the biscuits. Oh well, next year.

I think they're just calling everyone Core Gamers, because I haven't touched my Switch in a couple of months. (I did get in some quality time with RF4 Special and Story of Seasons, but nobody's going to call me hardcore for those).

I hold a masters degree. For petty, petty reasons I'm considering pursuing a doctorate.

Doctorate holders, how difficult did you find it to pursue your degree? Is the coursework more difficult than with a masters? More importantly, how difficult did you find it to research and create your dissertation?

The first game to come to mind was Metal Gear Solid. It did things that I'd never seen before (the helicopter sequence near the beginning used the rumble feature in a transformative nature), and it was arguably more effective in providing a cinematic experience than even FF VII.

I bought virtual currency in Mafia Wars. Spent a bundle, too. I wanted all the cool pictures in my character's account, and I wanted to compete in the PvP part of the game.

Come to find out, other parts of the world were getting products for a lot less and the top players had already bought the maximum numbers of the most powerful gear. That's when I finally gave up.

My native language is English. I've tried my hand at other languages, but I've never used them enough to achieve fluency.

Leave the recent political events out of this. I want to know whether you think, as a general rule, whether somebody with a PhD should be referred to as doctor wherever and whenever they'd like. For my part, I think it's pretentious to use it outside of a university or in your field of study, and it seemed to have been accepted as a general rule.

Margaret's first picture is awful. The second one is great, but I don't know what her agency was thinking with that first one.

I've got student loans. I've paid off a couple of groups, and I have about a year's worth of payments done with the rest of them.

Through a mix of coronavirus relief and political action, I haven't technically had to pay on them for the better part of this year. What's-her-name extended the forbearance by another month, so now I don't have to pay until February.

And that brings us to the real point of this post: Joe Biden has made some comments about maybe forgiving a bunch of that debt. I didn't vote for the man, but I'm certainly interested in freeing up a ton of money.

I know Traci Lords did that. She did one last movie when she turned 18 (which is when it became public knowledge that shed been underage) and a lot of people got in trouble. Fortunately for the producers, they could prove deception and avoided the worst of the punishments. That led to the whole keeping records.

Well, this complicates my evening's entertainment.

It's not the end of the world, though. I'm ok with losing some of my favorites in order to purge stuff that ought not exist.
