Top Gear for the SNES. You run out of gas, you dun goofed, get your ass back to the start of the cup. Not the race. The whole cup.

Funny thing was, the game wouldn't be over if you lost all your gas(until every other CPU racer finished) so you could try utilizing inertia and idiot CPU racers rarely crashing into your back to make it to the pitstop and get the gas to finish the race. I don't know whether that's supposed to be a bit of mercy, or intended to be torture, watching helplessly as every other CPU zips past you for the finish line(and those bums never run out of gas, no sir). Most of the time, didn't end up saving your bacon since anything less than 5th place out of 30 in each track was a Game Over.

Just the gas factor made the car with the lowest fuel consumption the best car out of all your choices. It's sweet having to refuel only once on a grueling 8-lap race while every other car would force you to refuel twice to finish.

The only time this problem came up in a video game I played(Dragon Age: Origins), I went with longsword just because the game gives you more two-handed weapon users(Sten, Oghren) as companions compared to one-handed weapon users(Alistair). Plus, shields are pretty darn nifty to have with you.

I do have to admit though, one-handed Starfang is better than two-handed Starfang so I guess I would've done that anyway. Reserved greatswords for a future run where I'd play a dwarf and just re-spec Oghren to dual weapons with a mod.

IIRC it was explained by the clones having no personal ill will/negative emotions when executing the Jedi. They were just following orders almost instinctively programmed into their psyches, without any conscious thoughts or doubts about it.

Jedi are used to detecting fear, hate, malice, etc. on adversaries trying to get the jump on them. They weren't prepared for utterly emotionless killers. Especially for the killers to be the unquestioningly loyal troops that they were ordering around only five minutes ago.

I dislike the fact that you need his weapon to access the armor capsule in his stage.

Forces a mandatory stage revisit. On the one game where there's an actual reason why you would want to minimize revisits.

Obviously Republican.

Pokemon was at its best when I knew nothing about the in-depth mechanics and was baffled why my Gastly couldn't hurt that wild Pidgey with Lick.

Every little minute detail or change I learned about the mechanics meant about an hour of revelations followed by prolonged disappointment most of the time.

Probably a good reason why I decided to shelf Pokemon from my gaming life for good from Gen 4 onwards, minus casual inquiries into my brother's Gen 4/Gen 5 runs and an in-depth/100% playthrough of Pokemon Conquest.

Well, IIRC the novelization did mention that Watto was uncharacteristically nice to his slaves compared to other slave owners on Tatooine. Whether it was special treatment for Anakin(and by extension his mother) because he deemed the boy and his talents valuable, or it was just because he was a decent character at heart, isn't particularly specified though, I think.

Maybe that kind of charismatic portrayal was meant to push the idea that Watto wasn't too bad of a guy, despite his being a slave owner and the mental images that might recall.

I very likely hold the world record for the longest time taken to beat the Grand Prix level in F-Zero GX's Story Mode.

Not longest time being stuck on that level. Longest time actually racing in a single attempt. (something like 7 hours)

Just because of the implications that race time means, and the fact that nobody sane would keep the GC/Wii running for that long after accomplishing the feat(I'd left it running without pausing just so I could brag about it to my brother lol). In fact, there probably won't even be people who would have taken more than 4 minutes, considering even 3 minutes is normally a guaranteed Game Over.

The Toad's House blocked off by 6-5 always gives you a Hammer Suit.

(In the All-Stars version, the other Toad's House next to 6-2 also always gives you a Hammer Suit; it only gives Mushroom/Flower/Leaf in the original NES version)

Nine. Not three.

Even if you don't get any of the ones that can possibly give you one if lucky, it's still six as long as you know where they are.

(Five(six for All-Stars version) for Hammer Suits, three(four for All-Stars version) if you miss all the luck-dependent ones)

Both paternal grandparents are still alive, though my grandmother is suffering from pretty severe dementia(as well as a myriad of other health problems) and the family thinks she's not long for this world.

Lost both maternal grandparents to cancer, grandfather to lung, grandmother to bladder. I blame my grandfather's lifelong smoking habit for both deaths, he resolutely refused to quit despite all pleas from the family for decades, until he was literally too sick to smoke.

It is, but the problem is that from level 20 and afterwards, a lot of your stat growth rates begin to dip into the negatives, and it just gets worse the higher your level gets.

which isn't to say that it doesn't have some redeeming qualities: it can be fun to lap people, and the chaos from having a blue shell hit the person in 1st and the person in like, 7th, is just *kisses fingers like an italian chef*

Baby Park becomes so ridiculous it's hilarious if you play as Bowser or his son and start throwing the giant shells everywhere.

If you're playing as anybody else though... yeah, it's terribly boring.

That doesn't count as that's not really an 'upgrade'.

If that counts, that would mean X1's Hadoken and X2's Shoryuken also count, which means X3 is still the worst as those two are automatic OHKOs for everything, including final bosses, unlike the Z-Saber.

One thing that bugs me about the game is how you can screw yourself out of the best chip that enhances all parts of X if you just so happen to get a chip in one of the levels that only enhances one part of X...or something like that.

Like what kind of bulls*** way is that to handle collectibles/upgrades?

The intent was to promote replayability by nudging you to try the different chips and see which fit you best.

Also, the best chip isn't supposed to be a normal collectible/upgrade, it's a super-secret that's only accessible in the final boss stages, and only if you've played the game 100% beforehand and gotten every single thing in the game minus those chips. Essentially, it takes the same place as X1's Hadoken and X2's Shoryuken, and wanting to use it forces upon you the opportunity cost of having to play the greater bulk of the game chip-less, including the initial 8 Maverick fights and the three special boss fights. I don't see any problem with it.

Gotta disagree with that.

Fully upgraded X in X2 is powerful to a hideous degree. If you get the Buster upgrade you don't even need weaknesses to cream the Mavericks and the X-Hunters anymore, the double-charged shot absolutely wrecks their health.

In contrast, X3's Buster upgrade is pitiful. Sure, you take damage a lot better courtesy of the new Body upgrade with its shield, but your ability to dish it out is absolutely the worst out of every single MMX game ever. You can't even reliably take out average mooks with it any better than the default Buster, something even the X1 Buster upgrade excelled in.

You should've gotten the leg upgrade in Buffalo's stage, which gives you the mid-air dash just like the one in X2. Just keep your distance from him while blasting him, then when he charges you, quickly dash-retreat to your side of the wall then jump over him. Repeat until he's dead. Stand your ground and keep shooting him if he throws his icicle traps(break the ones he sets on your wall though). The huge ice beam he shoots can be ignored as it doesn't damage you and even if you freeze a little button-mashing will immediately set you free.

Once you beat him(or get bounced from the stage, whatever), take care of Tunnel Rhino first because a lot of items/upgrades in the game are locked behind his weapon. He's actually the very first Maverick I would advise going against, anyway; the Heart Tank in Buffalo's stage is locked behind Tornado Fang for one thing.
