Dating apps have become a standard for hook up opportunities. If that's what you're interested in, it's actually DUMB NOT to use them. It's the difference between riding a bike across country or just driving your car...

For folks looking for long term commitments, however, one rule has not really changed pre and post advent of dating apps: the best catches rarely ever need that kind of assistance to find relationships to begin with and they get scooped up FAST without it, because their attractive characteristics are noticeable.

If someone's awesome company on dates, has an attractive magnetic personality, and looking to settle down, they generally do not need apps to reel in partners. The partners have already been coming to them.

"But but but I'M awesome, fierce and independent, Clockwork. Nobody looking for commitment is lining up to date me! "

Then maybe you're ignoring one or more 4 common problems:
<ul> <li>you're looking in the wrong places (looking for commitment in places where hooking up is more catered to is like looking for romantic dinner in a landfill). </li> <li>you're not as awesome as you think and you might be overestimating what you "bring to the table" compared to what you expect from partners.</li> <li>you're not making the conditions to approach you as easy and reasonable as you believe (you might be underestimating how much effort it takes to date you without asking yourself if you're justifiably worth the trouble compared to the competition).</li> <li>you claim you're ready for a commitment; but your actions, history, and priorities are flat out saying otherwise (red flags galore).</li></ul>

Self reflection and practical maintenance can improve your odds in finding a committed partner.
Telling yourself you're already perfect and people better accept that does not...

Have you been on online dating site before? Almost every woman says "not looking for sex" or something similar. Sounds like you're a real expert. And would you say you have this all figured out?

People have learned social cues from past mistakes, so yes. Talking to people does help. You gain knowledge and experience, and it also helps to get feedback and criticism. Sorry buddy, what you're saying is completely false. The more likely reality is you just don't want help

I do want help, I already stated that. You must have missed it.you just mentioned social cues, another thing you really can't learn. You either have it or you don't. If you have social cues, then maybe, just maybe you can learn social skills. But if you don't have one you certainly can't have the other.

A lot of the reasons why it's hard to improve is because of social skills. social skills is not an attribute that you can accumulate. You either have it or you don't, it is something that you are born with. If you think otherwise, remember something. There are no social skills classes, social skills do not grow on trees. There's no way you can improve them.

This is false and self defeating thinking. You can improve your social skills. It's just takes practice, and a willingness to want to improve. Seek out others to help you, there are support groups for this. Find someone in your city, become friends, and go practice together.

That's really not true. Anyone can talk. But not everyone has the wit. What do you do if you don't know what to say? You can't just ramble about nonsense. If you have no wit, you have no wit. If just talking works, how do you know you're improving? Is the girl going to give you a an annual review of how you did? Hell no. You won't even know if she's interested or not. And yes I do want to improve and learn. You just can't learn something that is unlearnable. Name one person who went from being a socially awkward dude to a stud.

I love insurance and warranties tbh.

Last August my BMW got hit by a train. I owed around 25k for it but really it was only worth around 20k. Insurance paid what I owed and gave me an extra 4k. Only had the car for 6 months and paid around 1500 for coverage and deductible.

Yeah it sucks if you own a car for 20 years and never use the insurance, but it only takes that one time and you're fucked without it.

Again, it's cheaper to pay out of pocket when you think about how long you've been paying for insurance over the years

Moved when I was a teen because my Mom met someone.
I will never go back for anything more than a visit. Currently a Permanent Resident, gonna do my citizen test after all the covid crap is over.

The most mind boggling thing about health care in the US is that you guys think that it ACTUALLY costs that much.
You honestly think it costs $10,000 to spend one day at a hospital to give birth to your child? Fuck no!
Does it actually cost $2000 just for an ambulance ride? Fucking NO!

You are regularly being gouged and ripped off, and you accept it. Mind-blowing.

I only accept what is legally required for me to accept, car insurance.

With that said, becoming a resident of Canada sounds like a major pain in the ass. But that is something I plan on doing.

I mean, one nice thing about an HDHP (which is the kind of insurance you would have if you have little to no health issues) is that many come with an HSA. They have insane tax benefits when you contribute to them, and even if you don't your insurance probably deposits some amount of money into it every month. I pay around $200 in health insurance per month through my job (pre tax) and around $66 is automatically deposited into my HSA every month.

$200 a month for insurance? holy fuck that's a lot

So you are about meeting the legal requirements for your car, but not your body?
Imo health insurance is far more important than car insurance. One accident and you're financially crippled for life. You can always buy a new car, can't buy a new body.

Thank fuck I moved to Canada 15 years ago.

Well without car insurance I can't even get license plates in NY so there's no way to cheat out of that one.

Health insurance is very rarely worth it. It might help cover something big if you need it, but then think about all the years you were paying $500 for coverage. probably would have been cheaper if you just didn't have insurance and paid for the medical expenses out-of-pocket. And if you try to cheap out on health insurance, you will be paying a shit ton anyway for the deductable If something happens.

Just curious, what made you move to Canada? Are you a permanent resident or a citizen?

While I agree that insurance is a scam, there have been a few instances in my life where I was glad that I had it.

When I broke up with my fiance there was a period of time where I was homeless. Around the same time my dad died and I was an emotional wreck. My part-time job offered me health insurance and because of this I was able to see a therapist twice a month and sort out some of the problems that otherwise would have become hindering depression.

I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Any responsible adult justifies it this way, I suppose.

I'm glad you're able to make it work. With that said, I think signing up for insurance can work if you know you're going to use it that year. Like, if I need a lot of dental work done, I'll probably sign up for dental insurance for a year. And then drop it when I'm done. But I'll pull out the calculator and make sure it's actually worth it.

it's always expensive as hell, they always find a way to get out of paying should you ever need it. and if you get lucky and there isn't something in fine print, they will still fight until the end.

Because I know people will ask:

- I don't have health insurance, it's pointless. Before someone says "it's illegal not to have insurance", that's a bad argument. am I in handcuffs right now? No I'm not.

- Only reason I have car insurance is because it's required in the US, and I have basic liability. The bare minimum. I don't care about coverage, I only care about my car being legal. If insurance weren't required, I wouldn't have it.

- Never sign up for any insurances for computers or phones I buy.

I know people will bring up "it's your fault for not reading the fine print" but remember something. Those responsible for writing those fine prints are trained to make sure you miss it so that you're paying for nothing.

I do want a girlfriend

then get one
or can you not because of the reasons listed in your second post?

I cannot. A few people said don't follow society or whatever, but you sort of have to if you want to be successful. Right?

No one is forcing you to be in a relationship, do what makes you happy and stop caring what others think.

excuse or reason?

the only difference is that excuse means it's acceptable and warranted. in my case I think it is warranted

I'm really bad with the first date

I suck shit at planning. I want to grab a beer, watch TV and shit. but society doesn't want that as a first date.

Im bad at small talk and hate small talk. Don't know how to get a girl talking

I appreciate you reaching to try to give it the benefit of the doubt, but you can do all of those things with regular YouTube
No, Youtube doesn't let you play in the background.

Neither does music if you don't pay for it

i don't know. probably some dumb shit like "play in the background, minimize and still play, stream on the go". I mean, you're not forced to get it but if you want to for the limited extra features they give you the option.

What does YouTube music offer that regular YouTube does not? It's just YouTube if you take everything away except the music.

When you're in your late 20s or early 30s, the military is pointless because you literally have to get rid of your whole life in order to join. You have to sell all of your belongings, get rid of your pets, and your apartment lease, quit your job, etc.
If you're even contemplating the army at that age you likely dont have, nor ever had any of that stuff to lose.

Maybe if you have a shitty job and need more experience in a different field. Or car insurance is too high and you need a discount
