this isn't the first time something like this is mentioned here but for the people it came off that way for, i can't imagine that was intentional.
I'm sure it wasn't. One of my key complaints is that the writer/director seems so lacking in awareness of what he was doing. Unintentionally or not he wrote a story that has very deeply unsettling undertones and did nothing to address it. If the movie had made anyone other than the main character more than a 2d cutout that could have changed the whole vibe, but again the guy making it just didn't do anything with it. In my first impression of it I liked the movie, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that it's actually quite vapid. If not for Riz Ahmed's sheer talent the movie would have all the depth of a Michael Bay film.

Sound of Metal

So I did post about this movie before but deleted my post because maybe I was thinking a little too hard about it. I found some parts very great - Riz Ahmed, the sound design used to portray what he was going through, some of the lighter moments while he was learning to deal with his newfound deafness. However I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something deeply wrong with what I was watching. I really felt like the character had found himself dragged into a cult-like setting and that we as the audience were just supposed to be okay with that. Since someone else mentioned that they got the same vibe, though, I wanted to go ahead and talk about it. It is highly unusual for a counsellor to suggest an addict in recovery ends a romantic relationship unless it's clear that the partner is only helping to feed the addict's behavior. Not only was he separated from his romantic partner and only real connection in the world he was forced to. He was given no choice, and even checking up on her seemed to be prohibited as he snuck in to use the computer during one scene. I know that this was supposed to be an all deaf community and that they nay have their reasons for wanting to keep it that way, but it is an eerie cultish thing to do to force someone to cut off all ties to anyone now in the group. And when he does try to reconnect with the outside world his is met with banishment. A simple goodbye, don't ever come back, you don't belong here. Yet not once does the movie even question any of this. My initial score for the movie was quite good, but the more I thought about it, the more it ate at me. There's even something someone else pointed out in their review - even though he went into his situation clearly in the position of a staunch secularist, by the end he seems to be at peace in the presence of an old church, as if to say he escaped one cultish group only to find himself seeking out another. Yet the movie never tries to address this issue. It simply put is out there like all of these things were just normal. I put the blame for this on the writer/director who clearly showed his inexperience in film making for not doing something, anything, more with this. By having the main character so quickly turn from resisting the separation from his girlfriend to almost completely accepting it as just normal all of the tension and drama that was promised early in the movie is deflated and the balloon is left empty. Acceptance is a part of recovery for addicts, not the end all be all. And again, the movie just does nothing with what it had. It didn't need to be turned into a Jordan Peele movie, but it could have been something. Instead it's just fluff, matress filler.

4/10

Fargo

So, uh, I've got this one on DVD. Bought it at my local library for $2 before the pandemic. However, I just now watched it for the first time. As you may have guessed, I often procrastinate on watching movies. Anywho...

I loved how it was such a tight script that really didn't want to take a lot of your time. There were certainly some quieter and slower moments and plenty of things had nothing to do with the main plot at all, but it never felt out of place. Sure, it's a crime thriller of sorts, but it's also an examination of these quirky characters and how they all handle various (dark) situations. If this was a Tarantino crime thriller it'd have been an hour longer and we'd have a lengthy scene sexualizing Frances McDormand's feet, doncha know. As a Coen brothers film, though, it just tells a simple, straight forward story in a neat little package.

8/10, would watch again, tell your friends, three-cent stamp.

According to untapped.gg numbers Tibalt's Trickery is 46% to win in standard bo1. Day9 provided some pretty good numbers on goldfishing the deck, but real performance shows it isn't even good enough to try to ladder with in an environment where there is no sideboarding. The cries for banning it are just that, salty tears.

Its interesting that this show actually takes place before FFH.

I assumed that JK Simmons showing up was just Marvel being smart about casting the best possible actor for the role... but what if hes actually been multiversed over somehow?
Even after everything we've seen in universe and heard about in the rumor mill I hadn't thought of that. BUT... It's JK Simmons. Why would you ever question JK Simmons playing a role, any role? If this multiverse stuff is real I demand JK Simmons plays at least three versions of JJJ because he's already played two alternate universe versions of one character in Counterpart (which was great).

It is probably the case that there were still ways to record the event but the entire facility was LEVELED, nothing on the ground would still be recording

I do really like the idea of there being footage of the event though - I think it's funny the way that people in the universe itself fanboy out over superheroes in the way we do
Ah yes, because Tony Stark never created any kind of near indestructible nano-technology that could have recorded anything... wait a minute!

Okay I just realized something that really bothers me - when they're arguing about whether or not Wanda could have beaten Thanos on her own... how did they know that? Were they THERE? Why would they be there? Was the whole thing being televised somehow?

(Endgame spoilers, although seriously do I really need to at this point? This series itself is spoilers for Endgame) Related sidenote - it's weird to realize that as the un-snap is happening at the start of episode 4, the big fight against Thanos is almost imminently going to happen - like Monica is finding out her mom died at about the same time the Avengers facility is getting nuked
The fight happened at Avengers tower so there is no doubt some record of what happened. Given the tech we see in Far From Home (all Stark tech developed before he even tried to come up with time travel), the Agents of SWORD probably have the ability to study the fight as if they were in it, and the general public would have footage and simulations of it from on-site cameras as well as media coverage that would have popped up very quickly in the situation.

Okay, I'm going for it - Speculation - Agnes is actually the one mind-controlling everyone (Norm only ever says "she," not who she is) because Wanda may be able to do something she can't (like bring a dead person back to life, perhaps this Ralph character she mentions and we never see). She's also there both times the boys age up and (as I mentioned before) she has something potentially sinister to say about the dog just moments before it dies. Perhaps she was trying to manipulate Wanda into bringing the dog back proving it could be done using the grief of Wanda's twins as a catalyst. Only just before Wanda can, Vis shows up. Vis, who has been noticing how Agnes just happens to always be there when it's convenient, have what ever the situation calls for, and isn't actually being controlled by Wanda.
Meanwhile, Heyward would be more than happy to dispose of Wanda because he and SWORD were the ones trying to use Vision as a weapon (when Wanda bursts in they have Vis further disassembled as if they are studying him).

You wanna keep the tree up inside your house? Go right on ahead, it's your fire trap. You wanna light the shrubbery in your yard up like it's the burning bush, go fuck yourself. If you weren't too lazy to put that garbage out a month ahead of Christmas then you need to stop being too lazy to put it away a month after New Years.

Question for people who are more experienced in limited that I am:

How do you play/think about hands that have say 3 lands but all in 1 color? Assume you have a typical 2-color deck. Also let's say that you can cast 2-3 of your spells on a decent curve even if you don't draw the other color of land since probably I'm going to mulligan a hand with like 3 Swamps and then 4 red cards. But in the case I described it seems very borderline and I just don't know what the play is. I hate keeping hands that only have 1 color of land but also mulligan-ing at all just feels really really bad to me in limited even if you mulligan into a good 6 card hand. (At least this type of limited. I suppose if I'm playing like MTGO vintage cube it's probably a different story)

Yes I am asking because I kept a hand like I just described above (ie. 3 Swamps, 3 black cards with cost 2-4, and a red card) and then drew red cards on each of the first 3 turns and was very sad, but I'm not especially convinced I made the wrong decision.
This is, of course, highly variable. In a generic sense, 3 lands and 3 playables off of those lands isn't a mulligan, unless those playable cards really don't further your goals. You'd just be trading one "unplayable" card for one less card. When deciding to mulligan you can never account for what your draws will be, but... in the "typical" draft deck every card off the top is ~15-20% likely to be the missing type of land (the % chance rises with every "missed" draw). If you have turns 2-4 covered with the black cards in hand, that means you have action in hand until turn five. In a "typical" game that's plenty of time to draw into your second color.

Everybody has drafts that don't go the way they want. Even the best pro players can get fucked over in a draft. The thing is that everyone has access to the same cards. Luck will always have a part to play in MTG, but bitching about it suggests more about you than the game.

@masterplum I think that maybe you should consider an alternative to "woe is me, everyone else is getting lucky with their drafts." This set is teeming with cards that can make a third color more than a splash (hint - snow can make an unintuitive "basic land" pick into a game winner). If the set is as shallow on picks as you're claiming, then you really should be winning. If the set really is as you describe then "good drafters" should actually have the advantage over bad drafters due to their skill, since overall everyone will regularly get bad cards. My guess as to why you're not doing as well as you think you really really, really deserve to is that you are auto-passing on a lot of high value cards simply because they would be low value in other sets. AKA, you're playing poorly.

As people were cheering on his friend at the tournament he kept moaning about how his real name is Eli. Demetri was anything but a good friend, in fact he hated watching his friend gain confidence and happiness. Despite multiple attempts to drag Hawk back down he was willing to let it go until Demetri wrote the negative review of Cobra Kai, which was one attack on Hawk too many. Demetri was a little shit that kept escalating things. The way Hawk responded was terrible, but Demetri used their friendship against him.
