The show obviously wasnt going to go 12 seasons as someone suggested above. Holding on to the main cast that long would have been impossible. An extra 8 episodes or so could have helped flesh out the ending, and certainly seemed possible (HBO would be willing to pay for it for sure).

The criticism from angry internet nerds is definitely way overblown (obviously). The bad things about the final season:

• the writing gets a little too convenient and fanservicey for a series that prided itself on brutal realism. This applies to season 7 as well. Im looking at you, episode where all the badass characters team up at the wall and are like lets go kidnap a zombie to prove to society that they exist. Not very elegant writing.
• the battle at winterfell was filmed using lighting for a movie theater screen. No one could see what the fuck was happening on their tv screens. Just a colossal fuck up. Also, the constant scenes where a character is surrounded by sprinting zombies, the camera cuts away, and then later they inexplicably didnt die.
• Aryas arc leading up to simply stabbing the big bad made her last 4 seasons of development seem ultimately pointless.
• Danys heel turn did have a lot of build up to it. From season 1 she was an arrogant, violent person, but the audience sympathized with her anyway because she started as a victim of the Dothraki/her brother, and then began a quest to end slavery. Later on, her trusted advisors start dropping like flies, and shes left to stew in her own paranoia. Even so, theres a logical jump where she suddenly decides to start burning thousands of innocent civilians.
• Just like Arya, Brans storyline seemed to ultimately end up being pointless. His magic powers end up affecting nothing besides helping to drive Dany to madness. They just provide a handful of cool scenes for the audience.

I recently replayed TTYD and it doesnt have a lot going for it besides the art, inventive scenarios, and writing. The amount of unnecessary backtracking is ridiculous, and combat is mind-numbingly easy the entire game, especially once you get the Earth Tremor special move.

Its still a great game, but the core combat gameplay is lacking. Some of the scenarios like the train, the wrestling tourney, and shadow Mario are some of the coolest levels Ive experienced in a video game.
