Marche (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) Edge Maverick (Star Ocean 4) Fayt Leingod (Star Ocean 3) Capell (Infinite Undiscovery) Tidus (Final Fantasy X) Sora (Kingdom Hearts) Luke fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss - Alas, by the time he changed, too much damage had been done for me to like him, and I didn't fully buy it anyhow. He still grated on my nerves, just in a different way.) Asbel Lhant (Tales of Graces - I detested just about everyone in this game but since this is specifically about protagonists, Asbel is sufficient.) Caim (Drakengard - Surprised someone else already mentioned him.) Kratos (God of War) --- All hail the king of Daein! |

The first game is incredibly boilerplate and has very little to it, as others have mentioned--it was needlessly primitive compared to other JRPGs of the time that were pushing things farther. BoF2 is a bit more fun and nicer to look at, but the encounter rate is ridiculous and extremely unbalanced in certain areas. It also suffers from an infamously, hilariously bad translation that makes FF7's look like a masterpiece in comparison. --- All hail the king of Daein! |

| KingAshnard 03/28/20 2:29:03 AM #4 | I'm pretty alone in thinking this, but I thought it was fantastic and incredibly underrated. A lot of people hated the road trip nature of it since that was such a huge departure from the first game, which had a much more consistent supporting cast throughout, but I enjoyed it a lot since I could tell what they were going for and it worked with the themes of the game. It's a different kind of story from the first (more of the real world drama, less emphasis on the supernatural) and it contrasts the more female teen-centric LiS1 with a focus on male adolescence instead, but in many ways I think I actually prefer LiS2. I definitely think the dialogue is going to hold up a lot better over time than LiS1's, which hasn't aged well at all--but for many people I guess that's part of the first game's charm. --- All hail the king of Daein! |
