While the politics was done in such a horribly paced way it was interesting knowing what it would all eventually become and it did well tying in the story. How Anakin turned was horrible along with his entire romance arc. They had zero chemistry. I felt more chemistry with Obi-wan I will say this. The Phantom Menace has the greatest light saber fight choreography I have seen in any of the films. I just mean the final one on one fight at the very end though.
