I played the first one when I was a freshman in high school, but I think of kids as being more like pre-teens or even pre-tweens (although it can have a wide-range of usage in general)...I cant imagine being 4-10 and making fun of AC.

I was probably around 10 at the time. I don't know how kids treat these kinds of things today, but for me it was about 9-10 when kids started making fun of everything that wasn't cool including Animal Crossing. I started playing in Middle School and I think I was around 12 or 13. I didn't really tell anyone unless they were my close friends.

Right after the first one the dialogue was toned down a ton. In Wild World, the only assholes were the villagers with the female personality type called Snooty. Males overall were pretty chill, even the ones with the Grumpy personality type which could be huge assholes in the original. And now everyone is pretty chill except the asshole personality types will occasionally say something kind of rude.

This. It took me over a week to find one. The one I finally got had a small cosmetic flaw but I didn't return it because I wasn't sure how long it would be before I saw another.
