I remember when calling a kids parents was usually a option for troublesome students. But nowadays parents couldnt give two shits about their children's behavior, or future even.

Parents are fucking worthless. One of my students lost recess for a week because he punted a 1st graders lunchbox down the hall and broke it.

I'll start with a simple number: 24.

It would differ at the different levels. 24 isn't too bad. But even with that, lots of kids aren't going to get one on one time.

15 is the perfect number but that's not realistic sadly

Just curious but is this an urban, suburban or rural school? I remember fifth grade in a suburban public school being totally chill. The only time we had any trouble was when the kid with down syndrome had issues and then they would just call down to the special ed area and they would send somebody to take him away to calm him down.

Rural. It's mostly farmer kids mixed with kids from very poor families that live in the small town nearby.

We have walkies and those things are going off 24/7 with different grades needing help from the principal or soec ed teacher or counselor. Especially in the lower grades.

At my grade we usually just put up with the shit. I doubt many chill schools exist anymore unless they're in ultra affluent areas.

My family used to have to pay 40$ a month for 256kb/s because we dared to live 4 miles out of town

In my area we also cannot fail a student without parental approval until GRADE 10. I taught a Grade 10 English class where nobody could read past a grade 6 level

I know a lot of hs teacher that say their admins force them to change grades so they can keep up appearances of high graduation rates

Go for it, there's no value in teaching when the public and government despise teachers, especially ones in the public sector.

The main thing holding me back is my school debt. I definitely can not go back to school. So I'd have to find some entry level shit that would accept any degree or find a different way to use my teaching degree. Not sure what that would be useful for.
