The officers didn't even try to talk with the guy. They just moved in to block off the other side and further guard him.

The three-row ice attack has a nice quirk to it. If you cast in the top or bottom row, the third icicle spawns in front of you, so you can get two frost stacks on an enemy on the top/bottom. Or 4 if you have a doublecast.

Flow has different effects depending on the spell. Not all spells give flow, only some have special effects with it. However all spells consume flow on cast if there is any. There are some artifacts that give flow as well. The idea behind flow is to have a bigger deck of cards that "flow" with each other and build up stacks while consuming them for effects.

Trinity works differently and only gets consumed on the third stack. Only some cards/artifacts give trinity. Trinity is like charging a stronger attack by using other trinity spells as fuel. tri-shot, tri-rag, mana-shot, and minnie gun are my favorite trinity spells.

Managed to beat the spare all bosses final boss... Ironically with turret girl. I did a run with her default stuff, some trinity things, mines, the standard shield 40 on cast, and... Time slow, misseltoe, as well as the spell that deals damage equal to your money. I never spent any. 1490 total, managed to completely decimate the boss without even needing to be saved by shield babe. Root to make it easier to hit her, nice. Her opening with that square attack sequence that's easy to dodge and she's completely still for? Oh hell yeah. :)

You're "supposed" to die to Serif. You technically beat the game when you beat the Gate.

It is possible to kill her, but it takes a lot of luck and setup.

Yeah. Plus that 3 row ice attack, since each hit strikes with a delay between each other so it caused a full stack of frost every cast. I'm assuming flow boosts the next cast damage or something? Trinity as well?

Phalanx is a great support focus! Just don't shuffle too much, you lose 40% of your shield every time you do. Especially don't shuffle during the dance phase for Violette.

So I managed to beat the wall boss thanks to all the glaives lmao. But then I got deleted by the first attack of the final boss. D; She said my level was too low?

Edit: looked it up, gotta either spare or execute all bosses.

Oh, and that one phalanx cast spell for 40 shield. Upgraded twice is awesome. 2 mana to double cast and +20 shield. 80 shield for 2 mana, #winning, especially if you top deck it during a fight.

Anima for ice, the only good fire stuff is pkfire and the one that strikes an entire column 4 away. My favorite ice one is the one that shoots along 3 rows, when upgraded for double cast it can help clear rooms as well as make hitting bosses easier while dodging.

Time stop is amazing, as is the artifact that does it for 2 seconds every reload.

I also like caltrops when upgraded, some bosses actually try their best to avoid it which traps them.

Beams are nice but the jams add up fast.

Had one, wouldn't recommend but it is what it is. Not sure quite how to compare it with when my appendix corkscrewed up and stuck against the intestine. I was in too much pain to stay conscious for that while waiting in the ER, but the kidney stone was so bad I couldn't sleep at all.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with deck building games like this, so I apologize if this is obvious to you, but one of the most important things to learn is when not to take cards

A smaller deck is often an asset in games like this - allows you to hit the right stuff when you need it more often

My one successful run so far was with the gun lady and a super super small deck of basically just a few shield cards, I got lucky with getting relics (or whatever the game calls them) that buffed me when I shuffled

So I just held down the attack button and constantly was shuffling or casting shields

I've played them but having a variety of frost inflicting attacks (easy ones and no real aiming needed like the bouncing one) makes it easier to get slightly more damage in during those dodging sequences where you're only on a path for a split second. I'm getting a feel for which ones are... If not better, then synergize better with a rapid moving play style.

Same thing with shields, certain ones are amazing at all times, others are only helpful early on and I'm learning that as well as which ones are worth upgrading and for what. The catch shield cards, ehh, sometimes you'll get effed with where they drop and the boost is matched or exceeded by basically every other one unless you invest 3 upgrades to get it to drop 2 and give 20 additional shield. The 200 shield one that ends if it hits an enemy, amazing if you can throw it in the top or bottom and forward most tiles and use it while the boss is moving into your zones a lot. On the other hand the catch mana ones are things you never have a reason to hold onto because you won't need to worry as much about if you catch it or not at times, since you can actually cap mana. Plus it doesn't need any upgrades to be amazing.

It's getting easier to figure out what the cards from different builds are like, how they synergize with themselves and other types, and what enemies patterns are. Zigzags are always good, except when saving hostages on the enemy zones. Then just assume they'll die, which is great with the right relics.

The story's awful, I'll give you that. But the combat isn't bad at all. Oh, I guess some areas are way too large for their own good unless you're just taking a speedrun route through and grabbing progression gear only if it'll be useful for more than like one boss fight.

Oh I get that, I have the ones i'm prideful in, like EDF 2017 on 360 I got all 5 achievements, including beating all levels on Inferno, and collecting every weapon in the game. It took 300+ hours. I love stuff like that.

Some people absolutely MUST have that 100% and play the game until they hate it and then play more. The obsessive compeltionists are what Mallard is talking about. I can let go and call defeat if I just want to stop playing that game and forget about it.

I know people who would not play a free AAA game because one achievement was unobtainable because the online servers were dead and whatnot. Depriving yourself from playing a game altogether because you can't get 100% of the achievements is beyond stupid.

*nods* There's some games I avoided because the achievements were garbage and made me think that there's no way the game itself can be good if the trophy requirements are as awful as that. If the game expects me to get a 1000 kill streak without a single upgrade in some survival game, then either they made it too easy and those restrictions are the only way to make it hard, or it's flawed/ unbalanced and they just want to fuck you over. I learned the usual routine, it seems like Indy games tend to do better with them than a lot of triple a games nowadays. :l

Not necessarily, I have a handful of trophies that even trophy hunters would consider extremely rare and enviable if they know what it entailed. Working on one in particular, beating star ocean 4 on universe difficulty.

Violette is the one I have the most issues with though, one wrong move and you're taking multiple hits and it can be very hard to recover at that point

Doesn't help either that once you start getting a bigger deck it becomes much, much harder to top deck anything you need for clutch moments so you start holding onto one side and spamming through the other.

Violette's rough because even if you get all the armor she drops, it seems like she deals progressively more damage with that follow-up strike. And if you can't move the boomboxes away it can make seeing her dance attack pattern hell. Not sure if it was bad input timing or what but I don't think reflect works on more than one attack if they strike at the same time, or else her attacks have a special priority like flames on the ground.

That tile destroyer lady and her cross destruction double saw attack, oof. If I can time it right I might be able to reflect and get trapped in a broken tile for the duration and just regen mana, I'll try that in a future run.

I got the 200 armor until it hits something first drop this run. Made it to a campfire before the 6th boss who is going to be the money gun character. Reflect spam should work wonders against the attack sequences that he usually gets me with, but I still have to avoid getting trapped which is really hard still.
