Why not? Not criticizing you I'm genuinely curious why you feel like it won't.

I just see a whole fuck load of people in crowds mostly without masks and imagine some are gonna get sick. Why don't you feel the same?

It's outdoors. The virus mainly spreads indoors.
Most of them are wearing masks.
It's such a small % of the population doing this.

Several people will probably get sick because of this. But not enough to cause a massive spike.

Nah, the riots are outdoors and many of them are wearing masks. It's also a very small % of the population involved. The riots alone will not cause a massive spike. If we do see a big spike, it's because of all the reopening.

riots are a symptom and not the disease, though. they are the result of and complication of a much bigger problem. if abusive ideologies are an illness, riots are the antibody.

This I agree with. I think they're a symptom of a much bigger problem. But they're not a cure.

They aren't, though. Minneapolis increased the police budget last year despite community backlash. Multiple prosecutors ran for president as Democrats this cycle.

Regardless, looting is only gonna cause local governments to turn to the police more to try and get them under control. It causes increased animosity between the government and the movement which I can't see being a good thing.

No, riots are necessary if you want change.

The thing is, in the minds of conservatives, looting and rioting just reinforces the idea that these people are thugs and the police are the good guys. And conservatives are the ones who need to be convinced of BLM's message for there to be any change. Liberals are already on board.

US reporting lowest number of deaths in almost two months.

I hope that's a good thing, but it's also Memorial Day weekend so reporting might be down quite a bit. Deaths do seem to be trending down, but new cases have been pretty steady these last couple weeks after they had been decreasing prior to that. Hard to say which direction things will go in the coming weeks.

I'd be cautious about that. Weekend numbers do tend to be lower due to less reporting on the weekends.

This is true, but when I look at the numbers I compare it to the same day of the week the week prior. The numbers really do seem to be going down. Even last week's high-reporting days had lower numbers. The question is whether this trend will continue. I think the next 2-3 weeks will tell us a lot as places have started reopening.

I mean, if the numbers in Georgia don't go up, that's probably a good sign. I can't explain why they wouldn't, but we should all hope they don't. Yeah, their decision to reopen made no sense, and it's tempting to want to say "I told you so." But if they don't see a spike, then maybe reopening some things wouldn't be as devastating as we thought. Still, we need to give it a couple more weeks before we start drawing any conclusions.

Some potentially good news, we went a whole week with without a 30,000+ case day. Since the number of tests has been increasing (even though we still should be doing more), this might be a sign that we really are on the downslope. No, pulse (heart rate) and counting your breaths (respiratory rate) are not the same as oxygen saturation, which is the percent of oxygen in your blood. Pulse oximiters are little devices that you put on your finger that checks both your pulse and oxygen saturation. You can't check your oxygen saturation without one. Pretty sure you can by a pulse oximeter at various stores or order one online.
