yeah i'm basically not only done with my "hitomi and maria are switched" theory but I'm also basically starting to trust hitomi. i actually don't think she's hiding anything anymore...?

maybe i'm being fooled.

but her relationship with achi is just too cute.

urgh, i dunno, maybe i'm falling for it... must remain vigilant...

Saaaame. I'm also beginning to think Maria is only so wholesome because of the amnesia and might actually have been a monster? I don't know! I'm doubting our neko protagonist!'

Also, if there is one thing I want more than anything out of this game that I fully expect it not to have is extra post-game storyline content with just straight VNs of the ancillary characters going through the day. Toyama & Hana, Kawa, and especially Sasayama. ESPECIALLY Sasayama. Since Tamaria's changed her menu outfit three times, I want to see Sasayama's outfits in all their glory PLUS his inner monologues that span multiple pages for his costume choices and transformations.

14:00-15:00 Thoughts

- Started Tama! Two good routes I could go down early on and I'm curious towards, and then... well, good to see Tanaka's a bad guy right away. ****.

- Go to Kano! Keep Out for who owns the condo the ransom money was going to. Hmm...

- Achi time! Early interest in Canaan. Also, all you can eat ice cream for ten-million yen? Sounds like a midday snack for Chiri! Maria went to the Middle East with Ozawa? I thought that was Hitomi...? Probably misremembering the photo story beats.
- Definitely starting to drop my guard on Hitomi. The college party story is hitting me in some feels. Though Hitomi's smile... felt less like she was happy about getting to apologize to Maria and more... "I can't believe he fell for such a dumb story."
- YANAGI! Wow, this magazine is getting passed everywhere. Who will end up with the scratch card?
- And Tanaka's talking about the minivan and a lock. Yaaaay. Tanaka is the evil.
- OH GOD!!! XD XD, the plates in front of Chiri, daughter of Goku

- Osawa! Didn't expect Tanaka to get tackled since he's been in the mall. And of course Ai gave it to him, she has bugs too.
- Hitomi is carrying the drug, in theory?
Ugh, I wish that I didn't see Hobbs & Shaw yesterday because I don't remember which supervirus does which.
- Another keep out! So soon!

- Minorikawa! It's been two days and I already forgot about his laptop issue. Feels like he's got some Weird Al "Trapped in the Drive Thru" drama half the time.
- Poor smart waitress.
- ...XD XD XD. Minorikawa's face is priceless. And he's been reading copy aloud. Heh, you know who is not amused? Kano's girlfriend's dad just looking so done with Minori from two tables away. Damn, how long have they been in the restaurant now? Three hours?
- Ooh, Kanodad owns up! FLIMFLAM!
- Kano's girlfriend was a judge for Miss Midoriyama. Maybe she could enlighten us as to whether Hitomi was really deserving or not!
- Maria and Hitomi do not share the same blood type. Sounds very important, especially with Bombay blood being a thing.

- To Tamaria! Whoa, a photo of... Stanley?! Whaaaat?! With the fritzing perspective and the red curtains in the background, I'm getting even bigger Twin Peaks vibes.
- Canaan tattoo!!
- Lookin' cute Miss Midoriyama! Dodges Achi, skips Tanaka, misses Chiri, but hey there's Hana!
- Cane guy is here, too! Everyone is coming together!
- Whoa! Tama wasn't just skilled fighting off the pro wrestler earlier. Now she takes out debt collectors and poses on them! Hell yes!
- To be continued! Alright, so... who does Tateno work for? Who left the storehouse door open? What happened in the Middle East? Where did Hana go? And how cute is Maria's new outfit?

- To Achi! XD, chasing Hitomi down, then Maria up!
- Toyama popping in and out for like two screens is never not hilarious.
- D'awwwwwwww! Nothing says perfect match like proper recycling!!
- Toyama and Yanaga, fighting over the scratch ticket, both with regards to dealing with the debt collectors. WELL PLAYED!
- Haha, the thugs running away from Hitomi. Twin magic!
- Ugh, to be continued again with mysterious Canaan.

- To Ozawa! Minorikawa calling on the tapped phone line, lol.
- Wait, he DID do that to Hitomi?!

He wasn't actually on his hands and knees, but he doesn't realize they see him through the intercom camera. AND YET HE POINTS!

- Wonder who Stanley's brother is in relation to all this.
- Street dancer Sasayama XD
- O_o NOOOOO...
- NOOOO AND IT'S TO BE CONTINUED TOO?! DAMMIT

- I like how Minorikawa finally officially enters the storyline. I just wish he spent a moment to tell them about the dry ice machine.......

Good chapter, 31 bad ends.

Been thinking about it for a few days, but I think we shouldn't focus on Epstein's cause of death. He is dead, there will always and forever be questions surrounding it, and those that hate Clinton believe the Democrats did it, and those that hate Trump believe the Republicans did it, and there is definitely ample evidence for either party or multiple other parties domestic and international to want his death to have happened with the means and ways. We all like a good murder mystery and whodunnit, even in real life.

But I think what we should keep a focus on, what probably won't be reported on nor will be voluntarily apparent, are Epstein's evidences and everything seized and any information he has. Because it is in Bill Barr's Department of Justice's hands. And like how the Mueller report was trivialized and advanced as a case closed by them, I just see this opportunity to shield further scrutiny and control the narrative even more now, and even worse, possible using any presumed blackmail Epstein had for their own purposes and attempts of control.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Curious if I'm reaching too far out there, or others feel similar.

Only won four scenarios so far (1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 3-1). Robot > Thief > Warrior > Witch > Inventor right now. Witch is difficult for sure, but I feel like the right combos can make her gamebreaking, especially if I can figure out what best to put where. Her thing is definitely area management, both on the grid and in the spell selection, and I am just failing miserably so far. She definitely has some terrible spells though.

I hate how Inventor just keeps robbing me of equipment.

This game is great overall, which is to be expected from what is basically Ace Attorney and Hunger Games crossover. I could do with a few less action gameplay (like that rythim game). On the other hand, the comic book making part at the end of the trial was super cool.

Danganronpa 2 is a better game than Danganronpa 1 solely for having much better trial minigames.

It's like how Mass Effect is a great game, but then Mass Effect 2 doesn't have the Mako.

But it was very enlightening and painfully honest about some adolescent experiences, but very worth reading. I can PM a link later if you wnt, but it can be very sensitive.

Lufia
- Played some of Lufia II. The combat and puzzle solving were a lot of fun, and I like how much the equipment changes up the dynamics of combat for each character; everyone feels limited in a good way. However, my breaking point was always dealing with the Monster Rancher-esque pet system, balancing what inventory to keep and what to feed, etc.

Illusion of Gaia\Terranigma
- Illusion of Gaia is one of my favorite games still with excellent visuals, music, characters, settings, and story. Soul Blazer is fun, too. Terranigma... it's a great game the first time you play it, but it just feels hollow subsequently. Illusion the best.

Breath of Fire
- Hmm. Despite having played a great deal of I, II, and III... I don't really have a strong opinion. They're fine RPGs with a colorful cast, and III is excellent til the desert, but they're not substantially memorable. Great fishing minigame though.

I will say that the characters are very memorable visually with lots of cool animal races and really great coloring. The GBA Breath of Fire is a very good transfer, and IIRC alters some translation that makes one or two late game story quests... intelligible to figure out? (How do I spend five minutes on a sentence and still fail?)

and Shining Force
- Tried to play once. I'm bad at large RPG party management

Illusion of Gaia >> Breath of Fire III > Lufia II >> Breath of Fire II > Soul Blazer > Terranigma >> Breath of Fire

Double >> indicates dropping a tier, so A, B, C, D. None Fs.

and of course, tama is maria. gasp. shock. this must be a big surprise to people who haven't already experienced enough stories in this vein to not be able to see these twists coming. but the real question is, is this really maria, or is it actually hitomi

It wasn't much of a surprise, but the video reveal was very cool. And yeah, that Keep Out bugged me. I mean, I chose to keep it on so I got to the TBC screen first, but if the little Steam Achievement didn't pop up, I'd have been playing for another hour or two trying to get Maria to the knicknack shop without her costume on. Thank you, Steam, for saving my sanity from turning into Ozawa looking for bugs.

Speaking of bugs, did you see the restaurant Bad End Minorikawa had last hour? Seems like Ai is bugged as well. I like how a good portion of the bad ends give hints or clues to stuff to come, or great character moments. Like Kano calling Kujiwara.

Really enjoying it so far, and the cast and casting are great.

I think what Kujiwara is "hiding" is that he's just actually a really good cop. I'm not sure I think he's hiding any sinister motives. He just actually knows what he's doing.

Matsuda! I was gonna say Maes Hughes, but that's our costuming partner.

Thoughts as I go through 13-14:

- Black Lodge. Ffff...

- The Detective needs to check the bodies. Otherwise everyone goes to the Golden Land.

- These puzzles are definitely getting more difficult. A lot more long-form paths where you're not sure if you've taken the correct one. That whole Burning Hammer demo failure? I did not expect that to lead to more things and almost retreated to see if I could get there before Chiri drank all the orange juice. Then there's phone call choices and cooking choices and it's getting subtly complex. It's really fun, but getting a bit lost trying to figure it all out.

- Achi's sister need s a heart transplant?! Oh god, there might be organ harvesting O_o...

- So... New guess! Hitomi is Maria. Maria and Tanaka are organ harvesting, and setting up Ozawa to take the fall for everything happening at his work, maybe for Tanaka to swoop in and be the boss.
I mean, Twin Peaks connections regarding drugs in the case of Laura Palmer and One Eyed Jack's wouldn't be far off from 'innocent' Hitomi being into deep dark stuff...

- I like how Ozawa's story so far is just Kujiwara managing to get Ozawa to do basic chores like unclogging the toilet, using a microwave, and doing dishes.

- Yanagi... He's Larry Butz. With Lotta Hart's hair. And Mike Meekins jaw & neck & frazzled animations.

- Damn, Yanagi in Minorikawa's story is making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Did not expect to end up liking him as much as I am, especially only an hour or so after how much of a joke he was. He really is the Butz.

- Wonder if there's a way to see more of Tama's story after taking the cat costume off? Get a Keep Out I can't get past and I wanna see her trying to buy the necklace without the guy letting her because she wasn't the cat he promised it to!

Managed to get all the Bad Ends this chapter! And none of them were the one I wanted to see ;_;

Kano's story this episode felt a lot like that one episode of 24 Season 1 where Jack hears where his daughter is and is just showing driving on the highway for the majority of the hour.

13:00-14:00 Rankings
Tama > Minorikawa > Achi > Ozawa > Kano

I don't really share Mana's belief that this game is going to go off the rails, I think the timeline and choices are just a gimmick to keep things interesting and keep you jumping around. But. Maybe. The ending of Achi's plot is the most ?????, the whole "Trust me, it's better for you if we kill her" thing is almost like... time-travel-y...

My theory: The guy with the cane is the person sending Ozawa messages, and that Hitomi (or Maria?) was injected with the virus sometime earlier and she needs to die soon before she becomes infectious and takes out Shibuya. Or like Maria is suicidal but also wants everyone to suffer and injected herself and switched with Hitomi and that's why it's an international incident but doesn't explain the people handling the case. And somehow, Burning Hammer ends up being the cure or a good release for the antiviral?? I have no idea anymore.

I finished 11:00-12:00 last night

Honestly I was surprised I didn't mess up more - A lot of my choices seemed to just work out. I chose to interview Achi's dad and I guess that was the "correct" one? Since I guess each hour can only end one way?

Not planning to try and get every bad end, but maybe I should. Some of them are pretty funny.

Ooh, samesies! I'm a bit worried that there would/will be some choices made that play out regularly but fail later in the game that we don't know about yet (not unlike Nonary Games where you thinking you're doing great but WHOOPS). But considering there was that JUMP bit... maybe we're okay?? Kind of want to go back, exclusively for Minorikawa, and check out the other branches of his. Pay the taxicab? Choose obvious story elements to let go of (and who knows, maybe Ozawa's company is involved with those organs?)? Pick different things to say to people?

Like, Ozawa's branch. I tried each of his and they didn't seem to have any immediate affect on anything... but... what does that mean? What is gonna happen? This game terrifies me because I don't know where things are going...

I dreamt last night of similar situations with this game, but also tied with Umbrella Academy since Five was the one jumping around and being the detective character. A lot has faded, but I remember a dinner with Rean from Trails of Cold Steel, his parents, and Fie and Fie was like, "I just bought an outfit for going on missions, what do you guys think" and Rean, who had already tried and failed to get her something more modest, tries to stop her again, but she shows off an even skimpier outfit that the one she has in Trails of Cold Steel II and then Rean's parents start vomiting green soup... and I, the dreamer, remembers other characters dealing with potential poisonings from hours ago involving water tank supply under the railroad... and things got weird so our stealthy character went into the crazy wing of the hospital above and ignored the task to convince Larisa Oleynik to be her girlfriend and join her in doing stuff covert? Anyway, Five is later on the train, testing out soups for poison by rubbing them on his face, and then gets off to talk with the guy on the outskirts with powers and mentions that he came at an earlier point in the day when a sniper killed the guy, but things should be okay now and we need his help and...

Yeah, none of this had to do with anything except this game has seeped deep in my brain and I'm seriously afraid of what **** will go down.

24 is exactly what I thought as well! I don't really read/watch stuff in this, uh, cop thriller genre or whatever it was, so it just reminded me of 24 right off the bat.

For the 11:00, I started with Minorikawa, then Kano, then Achi, now doing Osawa. Saving the cat for last lol.

I do love how incompetent Kano becomes in all the bad endings, though the first one was slightly over-the-top. "Are you the criminal?!" *achi falls asleep* "Boss! He admitted it! He's the criminal leader!" lol

Felt very early and silly Phoenix Wright picking the obviously wrong option! Complete with heavy sweatdrop and judge shaking his head in shame.

Started with Tama then Achi then Kano (having so much trouble typing that; keep thinking of the Mortal Kombat character) then Minorikama.

Did the same despite not getting any word back from Arti as to why it was his GotY 2018. Started it up a few hours ago and reluctantly have to step aside since I have work in fifteen minutes. Thoughts so far:

Progress Made: 11:00-12:00
- So far I've enjoyed Kano a whole lot. There's a fun, but weird dynamic where he is the ultra-protagonist with the clear focus on doing the right thing and getting tons of main character tropes, and then there's just a comical bumbling failure that he winds up in every time you pick a wayward choice. Achi is cool, too. I love the way those miscreants reacted to seeing his eco-warrior shirt. Yu Yu Hakusho vibes.

- The puzzling things out is fun, as are the bad ends. Nothing super crazy, yet. Part of me feels like this is just gonna be a normal game, but with how VNs can be like Higurashi and Umineko, and how this is Spike Chunsoft with the Nonary Games and Danganronpa... and with the character of Leland Palmer and a cafe called Log Lady... I'm fully expecting this to go completely off-the-rails at some point, and when it does, I will not be prepared.

- Lots of talk on Ozawa and he's the only character in the second hour I haven't touched yet. Looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table when I get back tonight! (Or tomorrow. Might watch Summerslam. Probably not).

-Reading Dels reaction, also feeling the twin swap thing. I thought that the distraction by his homeless-dressed partner about his celebrity-lookalike girlfriend allowed for a possible switch of some kind... but I really don't know what's happening because everything is all over the place. This is just the weirdest season of 24 so far.

Terranigma
- The first few times I played, I was just taken in by the world building (figuratively and literally), the combat, and the quest to get back to the underworld. Revitalizing all the different places, then the passage of time were really cool concepts, and there were some great moments later.

On later replays... it all just felt really hollow. Illusion of Gaia still holds up for its emotional moments and great music, Soul Blazer still has the piece-by-piece reclamation of lost souls and buildings which is really cool, but Terranigma just felt much more hollow and point a to point b, especially for a world rebuilding game. The lack of a surrounding cast also hurts; there were the few people in the underworld and a few characters who pop up once or twice more, but it's just meh. The combat even feels lesser with the running jump attack being the best move 95% of the time.

900 to 801, know 58. Top 5:

"Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley
"Motorcycle Drive-by" by Third Eye Blind (my nom)
"Misty Mountain Hop" by Led Zeppelin
"Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac
"Dance, Dance" by Fallout Boy

821. Teardrop, and the tv show you SHOULD care about and why you probably heard it on The Simpsons:

And now my brain is mushy peas

- 45 between 1100 and 1001. Top 4
"Best of You" by Foo Fighters (1080)
"Baba O'Riley" by The Who (1040)
"Band on the Run" by Paul McCartney & Wings (1021)
"Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac (1029)

- So far I've recognized 85/300 songs, which is both more and less of what I expected. It feels like more songs than I was expecting, but it's still just a meager percentage. Of those, almost half are 70s songs. I betcha if there were 60s songs, that would be winning out. The other four decades are pretty much even. 44 70s tunes, and the other decades are between 8 and 12 each.

- Re: "Tarzan Boy" - I do hope I made some kind of YTMND comment. Nice to see 1985 make it to the list, although we've already seen Madonna, Nirvana, and Blondie though I don't know about Stacy and U2.

- 57 between 1000 and 901. Top 5
"Let's Stay Together" by Al Green (my nom)
"Everlong" by Foo Fighters
"Roundtable Rival" by Lindsay Stirling (my nom)
"Night Begins to Shine" by B.E.R. (my nom)
"A Little Piece of Heaven" by Avenged Sevenfold

Into the current topic!!

Going through the list because I'm bored at work and need to focus on something pther than knee pain while doing nothing:

- In the bottom 100, I only know ten songs, even when I had listened to a good chunk of them as they were posted. The only one I retained any memory of was "'93 til Infinity" which still hits. Surprisingly, lol, I like my "T.I.M.E." nom the most even over "Born to Run" and "Angie".

- Thought I knew "Shot Through the Heart" but then I realized you didn't give love a bad name. :P

- Glen Campbell's "Southern Nights" is definitely superior. Started this post specifically to also mention this "Sunny" is vastly superior than whatever was happening in that disco version. Too bad it was 60s.

- Reflecting that last comment, there were so many songs I thought I knew by title alone until I listened and read your commentary and realized I was not listening to the world I know (I'm wondering if that Collective Soul song shows up). Knew 30 songs as they were nominated; 8 songs I knew one or more alternates artists singing; and of the 30 I knew, at least four of them I knew the alternate (jokingly including "Best Song Ever"'s "Baba O'Riley")

- Gonna do top 10% of these chunks so Top 3 of 30:
"Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder (1143)
"#41" by Dave Matthews Band (my nom) (1134)
"Fly Like An Eagle" by Steve Miller Band (1140)

- So many seventies songs got slaughtered. Lol

Taking a break to charge my phone. Then I'll go back, Jack, and do it again.

hmm.. The information I was looking at claims that the temple of the White Lodge in Peru is where the "mythological" origins began. I think that was even stated by the songwriter Daniel Moore himself

No, the entrance to White Lodge, as well ad the Black Lodge, is near Twin Peaks, Washington

Also, Three Dog Night is definitely big on oldies radio. "JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG"

Edit: Holy 21 Top 40 Billboard hits o.O

Wait, why is it divided by the decade ranking? Isn't that a factor that's almost, essentially, evenly distributed and would probably place each song at the same relative point on each? Like, if I nominated a song that was in your 50th percentile on both lists, that would end up being treated the same as a song that was in your 90th percentile on both or a song in your 10th percentile on both.

Like, I guess it can deviate a little if you really liked one decade over another, but not only have you been very even-minded about that so far, but it also has nothing to do with the nominator themselves.

I can kind of see why he did it in part because the 70s songs have been heavily weighted towards the bottom of the list so, like #704's "Jessica" is in 81st place among 70s songs, but 705. is #179 for 2000s and 703. is #175 for 90s. Since we all nominated three for each decade, it also presents how well we scored amongst those as well. It's weird, but I'm okay with the complexity.

Even though it means I'm last place instead of first XD
