Cable news is designed to keep the viewer tuned into their network or, at minimum, keep the viewer having the channel on a continuous loop so they can keep generating high ad revenue. And Trump has been the single greatest gift to the news media since like, the war's in Afghanistan and Iraq back in the early 2000s. Hell, making himself a major story across the country and really, the world, is how he was able to gift his way into the White House through the free coverage they gave him in 2015/2016. And thousands of people made A LOT of money covering Trump during that time. It's why him and politics in general have bled over into so many other forms of entertainment and subject matters.

The mayor released a statement in March saying his son cooperated with police and did not know the alleged ringleader, Evan Kopek, or Owens before the night of the calls. He has declined comment since then. Kopek, now 18, was a former friend and classmate of Owens. Two days before the phone incident, they had a shouting match during class. I'm waiting (actually, not really) for when an actual White Supremacist--someone who doesn't deny it at all and wears it on their sleeve--runs for President, and has a run very similar to Trump's in that someone who shouldn't be anywhere near the White House makes it to the final election day. Oh it'll likely happen within the next 4 election cycles or so due to the demographic trends likely forcing the Republicans to need to expand their voter base more and more as well as seeing the success of people running on messages becoming more sympathetic to that ideology. 2045 is likely when the US becomes a majority-minority, so look for it to heat up more and more as we get closer to that inevitability.
