As far as perfect ending I think a hard cut after the line "You wouldn't get it" might have been my preferred ending. The way they do it now feels like "he pops out of delusion, but in the very next and final scene he's back in the delusion running down the hallway in a cartoon style"

From what I read it was capable but the limited capacity of cartridges was too much to overcome. I am pretty sure most of the capacity on games such as the Final Fantasies for PS1 was used by those scenes, and not only were they multiple discs but the discs held 10x as much as a cartridge. A 60 second scene could be like half the capacity if a cartridge if not more.

Fun fact: All 3 discs of FFVII actually contain the entirety of the game except for the cutscenes. It's possible to glitch your way into the final boss on disc 1 and have the opening cutscene play as you start fighting Sephiroth.

they're not the samoan/brown natives. They're mostly somewhere from asia, or second generation (again, from asia). They do stuff such as overcharging your credit card, denying you the wifi code even though your hotel package clearly has it, or refuse to come to your table when they're servers.

every time I go there, no matter the hotel, price of the hotel and season I go my hotel room is not ready, they tell me to fuck off and go take a walk and come back in 4+ hours, and then they do petty unnecessary stuff such as telling me that there is no restaurant or coffee shop at the hotel when they actually have 3 of those.

Oh, okay (about the spoiler tag thing). I think a lot of the movie is open to interpretation (what did or didn't really happen). There's a few things that could point to it not being real at all, but I'm definitely going to want to watch the movie again to get a more solid grasp on anything I might be remembering incorrectly:

- When Arthur is doing the one-on-one session with the worker early in the movie she asks him something about his time in the asylum. It cuts to Arthur in a white room, white vest, banging his head against the window/door of his cell. This scene later seems contradicted when he is trying to get the file on his mother and inquires something like "What does a person have to do to get locked up in a place like this?" He seems to have a lot of questions about it for someone that's already spent time in an asylum before.

- There's a couple scenes shown where he was obviously delusional/fantasizing about something. Early on he fantasizes himself in the audience of the Murray Franklin show and the transition is so seamless. One moment he is watching it on TV, the next he's in the audience. All the interactions with the woman in his apartment building (minus the initial elevator scene) were all imagined as well. Although it wasn't really believable that they were real anyway, especially when he knocks on her door after killing the three guys and just starts kissing her. No way.

What else about the movie doesn't seem like it could really happen though? A lot of stuff. Him being able to get to the front gate of Wayne Manor and literally put his hands on Bruce. Nearly choking out Alfred despite being a scrawny fuck and Alfred being much larger (and occasionally being alluded to as being ex-military in some capacity or having some kind of martial arts training or some such).

He gets into the theater without any trouble, is able to confront Thomas Wayne. Nothing happens as a result of either of those interactions.

He's able to grab his mother's file from the clerk, run through the asylum unabated. Stops and reads it in the stairwell, and presumably leaves without being harassed as well.

The whole Murray Franklin show appearance. It might be more believable now in the days of viral media, but I can't see a talk show host pulling a dick move like that when it would make him almost universally unlikable. Airing footage to mock a mentally ill person on air, then inviting him on the show to do it even more? Then when he confesses to the killings, they just let him sit there and speak on live TV. Feed isn't pulled, no security comes to get him, cops aren't called, etc.

The whole "clown revolution" thing with him as the messiah doesn't seem believable either, as well as how slow/incompetent the police were even as he ramped up his actions but those are sort of minor in comparison.

At the end when he's again in the asylum and he's asked what's so funny and he says "You wouldn't get the joke." If he imagined the entire thing while he was in there it sort of makes sense. He was a nobody, no one ever noticed him or cared about him. Then through a series of events he's entirely responsible for the entire state of Gotham. More importantly, Batman didn't create him, he created Batman. Which is probably like his ultimate power fantasy tbh.

TLDR; It's shown Arthur is highly delusional, particularly in his imagined relationship with the woman in his apartment building. But a lot of what takes place in the movie seems like the delusions of a mentally ill person due to how unrealistic they are.

Once the ambulance hit the cop car to rescue the joker he does his little dance and then he escapes with the help of the rioters, setting up the story for a life of hiding and crime for the clown prince of crime (even if there is no joker 2 because it's a one off)

This is actually what I was expecting to happen. I thought maybe somehow they knew he was in the car and were intentionally trying to bust him out and crown him their new messiah. They didn't appear to be aware that he was though.

What happened afterward kind of leaves the movie open to interpretation because it implies that none of what happened for the duration of the movie was even real. Arthur was in the asylum the entire time, and everything that happened to him was just a psychotic delusion.
