ratchet and clank gets easier as a series as it goes on, for the most part due to the increased focus on rpg elements meaning more health and such combined with less emphasis on platforming and such. also more qol features I guess.

the first one was definitely the hardest.

as far as stuff with translation patches go, uh there's Valkyria Chronicles 3 though I haven't tried it yet. most of the patches I've seen seem to be basically taking the text from the console version and jamming it into the psp version like Shiren 3, Way of the Samurai, La Pucelle Ragnarok, Phantom/Makai Kingdom Portable (although obviously the new content from the latter woudln't be translated so it loses part of the reason to even play it. also I wouldn't recommend playing Shiren 3 because it's stupidly long). I think one of the Fortune Street games and the first Queen's Blade SRPG has a patch for the menus at least but I haven't tried the patch for either to see how functional it is

Got about 15 hours in Earthbound so far... Just hit the beach in Summers, so while I don't remember everything exactly I'm estimating that I'm like 40-45% done?

Also knocked trough levels 1-35 in Lolo 1 saturday.

As a side note, I fired up japanese lolo 2 to see how far I was in on it, and I think I was actually save stated on the exact level that mzero was talking about (the one with all the leepers circling around the lone tree). solved it and the rest of floor 2 but took a break after that since I wasn't serious about trying to finish it right now.

Japanese Adventures of Lolo is actually US Adventures of Lolo 2. And it had a completely different (harder) level set from the US Lolo 2.

Similarly, Japanese Adventures of Lolo 2 is US Adventures of Lolo 3, except that it also has completely different (harder) levels.

The game boy Adventures of Lolo I was talking about isn't a port, it's a new game too, except the european version added a ton of new levels, a tutorial, and super game boy support.

yes, it's super confusing and that's probably why you're having such a hard time since it's aimed at more experienced players who've played some of the previous games.

the lolo series does occasionally have some rather annoying unclear mechanics

mostly the maps where you have to force enemies to respawn in different locations, since in normal circumstances it would just remove them from the map permanently and there's no clear indication that there's an exception to the rule or that it's necessary to finish the stage without trial and error (well, you might be able to guess it's possible if you look closely at the map and say see a medusa blocking something vital to clearing the stage but no way to push an egg next to it to block it). sometimes you have to chain it multiple times argh.

though the game boy version explains it exists in the tutorial... and I don't think there's any instances of that in this game since apparently it was exclusively made for a us release from easier levels in the series. So while my memory is pretty fuzzy I thought most of the early rooms were pretty basic ones meant to introduce you to each type of enemy and some of the basic mechanics. it was probably easier for me since I had played a little of the gb version which as previously mentioned had some tutorials for each type of enemy type.

(also the worst example of a how are you supposed to even figure it out room I've seen so far in the series is in Eggerland Mystery, where you can pick up all the visible heart framers in a room... and nothing happens. to actually finish the room you have to push all the emerald framers in the room flush against the wall to make the last heart framer appear. there's no precedent in the game up to that point for such an action or any clear indication that's what you need to finish the level besides having gaps large enough to fit all the framers in the room along the sides.)

Getting the sigil actually wasn't too bad, once I got used to it and thought of it as steering a few degrees left/right as you run forward since the problem is more oversteering than anything else.

of course there's still a pretty big luck element involved in the layout of the course.

the sun temple race is the worst minigame though if you care about getting the damn trophy for it in the HD version.

I'd recommend going back and finishing the other routes since there's a few more points that get explained and true ending is a continuation/epilogue of the normal ending. so it's kind of like just stopping at the safe ending in 999.

although I should point out as a fair warning that Hana's route has an untranslated map trigger segment that doesn't indicate that you've failed it by picking the wrong choices until a significant amount of text later.

Just a word of warning, afaik the Rokka novels have been on hiatus for a few years now and who knows if they'll ever be completed.

though at the very least, they find out who the real traitor/seventh is and take out one of the major villains so there's some closure on that point at least.

Although I think it's kind of a worse cliffhanger than the first volume, since things were starting to go in a very dark direction...

It's been a while since I watched Penguindrum so I don't remember pretty much any of the details but in general I thought the series was based on the terrorist incident where cultists released sarin gas on the tokyo subway. (which I don't really know much about either) hence all the train/station imagery, apple imagery because the characters are tainted with "original sin" since the cult/terrorist attack the parents were involved with was what brought them together, they were railroaded into the "fate" of repeating the terrorist attack again because of their parent's "sin" but in the end they were able to escape from their fate and the influence of the cult back onto the traditional Buddhist cycle of absolving sin through reincarnation I guess.

buuuuuut like I said I don't really remember much of the series and could be wrong on a lot of the SYMBOLISM and such because of that and not really bothering to actually look stuff up >_>

I've been reading valxlove. it's pretty much like hxh or magika no kenshi to shoukan maou with the girls powering up from the mc taking them on dates or doing ecchi things, although it doesn't go as far/gets as explicit as either of those series. also the mc tends to freak out and mess up on dates/during ecchi scenes because he's got an acute fear of people because he was bullied/shunned (since he looks like he came out of attack on titan).

wario land 1 was basically him going to steal treasure from pirates (who stole it from the mushroom kingdom I guess) before mario could get it back in order to buy a castle after he got kicked out of mario's castle in mario land 2.

Tokyopop had already licensed Crest of the Stars 1-3 (what the first anime/manga covered). I only have volumes 1-2 since I wasn't able to get the third before it went out of print.

edit: I think the plan is that they're going to release the print version of Crest of the Stars 1-3 as one volume, so it won't get released for about a year.
