Topic | POLL: Who does NOT belong on the Mount Rushmore of WWE? |
Josiah_Is_Back 12/28/19 12:47:52 PM #43 | I think what I'll actually do to save time and not have to make nine polls is just eliminate the three wrestlers with the most votes. Looks like Sammartino, Flair and Cena are dominating this round so I'll give it some more time, wipe them off the field, and post a new poll with the new field of seven. |
Topic | POLL: Who does NOT belong on the Mount Rushmore of WWE? |
Josiah_Is_Back 12/28/19 12:33:37 PM #40 | lilJoe457 posted... And at what point did he become synonymous with WrestleMania? Was that before or after Austin and the Rock help boom the business for them? There was a period when Hogan left where it was Shawn Michaels Bret Hart Diesel and Undertaker. And you know what they did before Austin and Rock came along? Nothing. I would say he became synonymous with WrestleMania once his Streak became the primary focus of the show, with various wrestlers even saying that the prospect of defeating him at 'Mania and ending the Streak was a greater honor than winning the WWE world championship. He had a string of PWI Match of the Years with the likes of HHH and Shawn Michaels and basically from 2007-2013 he stole the show at WrestleMania. But regardless here's another argument for you: Gutzon Borglum who sculpted Mount Rushmore said he chose Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt because they represented respectively the founding, expansion, preservation and development of the United States. Many people would argue that Hulk Hogan, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, the Undertaker and John Cena respectively represent the founding, expansion, preservation and development of the WWE. |

Josiah_Is_Back 12/28/19 11:17:33 AM #32 | lilJoe457 posted... Why do people include undertaker in lists like this? WWE really over hypes his value. Taker never helped business grow. Like at all. What helped the wwf was Austin and then the rock. Putting taker before the rock is asinine. Undertaker is HHH tier to me. They're good fodder but they're not draws at all. He became synonymous with WrestleMania, WWE's most lucrative show every year. How is that not a draw for the company? |

Topic | What are some of the best mixers to mask the taste of alcohol? |
Josiah_Is_Back 12/28/19 1:48:02 AM #1 | I've experimented with quite a few things, and I've noticed that the following mixers work very well in masking the taste of alcohol: Root beer: Yes, believe it or not; amongst sodas, root beer has the best masking capacity AFAIK. Right now I've got about a shot and a half of 40% vodka mixed with a can of root beer and I can hardly even tell there's any alcohol in it. Egg nog: makes sense, considering how thick and fatty the drink is, but you can usually load up some egg nog with a hefty dose of alcohol and still be able to drink it without making a weird face Sweet pickle (gherkin) juice: Yeah, a really weird one; but hey, I said I've experimented. I forget what alcohol I tried this with but I remember literally being unable to taste the alcohol, so yeah. Anyone else wanna give it a whirl? |
Topic | POLL: Who does NOT belong on the Mount Rushmore of WWE? |
Josiah_Is_Back 12/27/19 10:29:05 PM #3 | BTW, I'm thinking about turning this into a series. Like, once we have a definitive "loser" in this poll, that'll dwindle the field down to nine, at which point I can post a new poll, etc., and keep it going until we have it down to the official CE-endorsed WWE Mount Rushmore. Anyway, I'm going with Bret. He is definitely one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, but in the context of a Mount Rushmore he's just not as known outside of the industry and not as iconic as the others... |

Topic | I had a bizarre experience watching TROS (and during an eerily apropos scene) |
Josiah_Is_Back 12/27/19 8:42:34 PM #1 | Here Be Spoilers!!! So, I went to see TROS on Christmas Eve. At a certain point, I began to feel very odd. It was similar to the detached feeling you may get when you smoke marijuana (mind you, I had none; I smoke very rarely) but it felt like I was going to pass out, as well. I had eaten that day so I didn't have low blood sugar or anything like that. I'm a fit guy; 31 years old, no high blood pressure or anything like that. As bizarre as it sounds, I started getting scared because it almost gave me the impression of death. Like, it felt like everything was slowly shutting down (in a permanent way). I thought to myself if it gets much worse I would tap my stepdad's shoulder and tell him we have to go to the hospital. It felt that serious. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself, and after a minute or two it finally went away. Now, the really weird thing is that all this was happening during the scene where Rey kills Kylo and then Leia uses her life force energy to keep Kylo alive. Was I experiencing a strangely profound empathic connection with the scene? It freaked me out. |

Josiah_Is_Back 12/26/19 9:11:55 PM #14 | DevsBro posted... Yeah, 9 had a lot of problems but one thing it did well was convince me resurrecting the emperor wasn't stupid. I did appreciate how it wasn't just a given (in-universe) that he was actually back. Poe was hesitant to even say it ("apparently, somehow Palpatine has returned") and then I think it was Rose who incredulously responded with "wait, we don't actually believe this, do we?" |

Topic | Jeopardy - how do the contestants know the answers to all this shit? |
Josiah_Is_Back 12/24/19 1:17:02 PM #39 | Jeopardy does not provide contestants with any semblance of a study guide. You are put through a rigorous qualification process to determine first and foremost that you are knowledgeable enough to warrant being on the program. But the entire point of Jeopardy is to have a well-rounded breadth (and ideally depth) of knowledge of various subjects; to provide a study guide would be antithetical to that. Contestants such as Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer have spoken about this. Quite simply: you just have to know a lot of shit. |
