I don't get what you're not getting about a stick being used for digital inputs being bad

Okay, sorry, two questions to be clear and concise:

Why is it bad?
Arcade sticks are typically digital, hence my mentioning the cardinal microswitches. So I have to ask what your definitions of analog and digital controls are, and why you don't think sticks are digital.

how are sticks terrible?

A stick is supposed to be for analog input, but fighting games don't use analog controls

Moving a stick to register a button press... or you could just push the button directly? What's better?

Buttons, because you're not limited to a single input at a time like you are with a stick, which allows for some neat tricks, and it's possible that pushing a button is faster, too.
.
I don't know what you mean by analog controls, though. No definition of analog that I know of is relevant, or would make a difference.

There's no more dedicated series to the very concept of fighting, though, and you can see the love and work that goes into the manga. Every fucking thing, even the scenes where they're just discussing the philosophy of fighting while drinking fancy booze, all of it gets detailed treatment.

I have to wonder how common this is. I don't really remember when or how, but coming from a very classically orthodox-catholic-hispanic family, chock full of traditional gender roles and machismo, I was all about keeping my emotions in until some point, where I realized that was stupid, and anyone who gave me shit for it was stupid.

Maybe I read up on toxic masculinity before it was common knowledge or something. Either way, I don't see that kind of machismo anymore, and I have to wonder if it's based more on local culture.

Ah, yeah, that seems like something the boys could take a lesson from.

I admit I'm wrong about how ethnicity was perceived (could you blame me, a subhuman still counting as white certainly seems contradictory)

I have to point out that you've hoisted your own petard with my own, though The articles you've posted do actually state that, because of their whiteness, they still had legal benefits over races considered nonwhite. Even with discrimination between white ethnicities back then, white privilege was extant even in the letter of the law.

Like I said, I'm not denying that whites have had a historical advantage over black people. What I take issue with is the term whiteness as it is applied by people such as the authors you posted, which is this sort of global privilege the trumps all else and in order to make that term work requires retroactively redefining who was and wasn't considered white. That's why going back to my first post I think it is more accurate and less aggressively divisive to use the term majority privilege, which would also allow the same theories to apply evenly to countries like India, the Congo, Venezuela, China, and Pakistan.

Put simply, we're both partially right. What matters is that we can discuss these things rationally in a way that accurately defines where the issues are so we can deal with them, rather than trying to make it a literal black and white us vs them scenario. To that extent, I appreciate greatly your willingness to discuss these issues, and to come to a reasonable compromise.

For the record, you've changed my mind a bit on the subject, which is extremely rare. I can't entirely go by that link I gave you anymore.

You're not contradicting what he said at all, though. Back then, they were considered minorities too. White privilege did not extend to them precisely because they were not seen as white.

But this is exactly the issue. To make the term work you have to do nonsense like assign "whiteness" to a person as a factor of when they were born rather than literal skin color. If White Privilege doesn't extend to white people when you go back to before the label was "assigned" to them, if the answer to "is the person in the picture white" is "let me check the date it was taken", then clearly its not the right label for the effect you're describing.

You're rediscovering sociology here. As you've just recognized, whiteness, in this context, is an assignment based on social perception. What constitutes whiteness is perceived differently based on culture.

Only retroactively based on people who are now trying to make whiteness something other than skin color. If you went back to when Irish were treated differently, they were still white. People would have called them white. Their status had nothing to do with their skin color. Only now that people are trying to turn whiteness into a pejorative and not a descriptor did they suddenly stop being "white", and only so that "whiteness" as a concept can be made retroactively sound.

The thing is that this isn't true. They weren't even considered the same species.

What you are ignoring is the vast number of white people who were not considered white even after 1964 and who had disadvantages even though you might call them white today. It really is not as black and white as you want it to be.

You're not contradicting what he said at all, though. Back then, they were considered minorities too. White privilege did not extend to them precisely because they were not seen as white.

The emoji at the end

It seems most people misuse and misunderstand the word privilege so much so that we should do away with the word within these discussions of racial issues entirely

This is the case with any term originating in academia and then getting popular. It's not the fault of the term that people are stupid. The same thing will happen to the next term to get popular, either way.

That's a good article, though it doesn't support your statement. You can definitely say that misunderstanding and misappropriation of white privilege are problems, though. The meth-stained wastes of the midwest get no attention.

White privilege shouldn't be put out of sorts from the umbrella concept of privilege in general.

Doesn't seem disingenuous to me. Privilege isn't something that you "stop using", so much as something that recognize and consider, so that you're not shitty to people without the same privilege.
