Question for the mexican CEmen

I know what a taco is. I know what a quesadilla is. I know what a doblada is. I know what an enchilada is.

I know if when I see them. But if someone asked me what is the difference I wouldnt know what to say.

What is the difference ?

That's akin to describing the difference between Lasagna Bolognese, Stuffed Rigatoni, Italian Pasta Salad, Chicken Alfredo, they're all Italian dished made with pasta.

So... I guess the difference is what you stuff the tortilla with? I mean, I guess they're all the same concept and those naming differences is just to identify which type you wan't.

Never gave it much thought though.

tamales for xmas carnal

I had a Mexican friend (actual Mexican) and he got mad as fuck when I said Mexicans eat tamales for Xmas.

Apparently Mexicans from Mexico actually eat turkey and that sort of stuff in Christmas, while the cholo types in the US eat the tamales.

My friend told me that it is actually like if Americans living in China ate Big Macs for thanksgiving instead of turkey

My dad lives and is from Mexico, but he's not actually a real Mexican cause someone you know said he wasn't because......of food.

lol

Let me take a whack at this

His mexican friend isn't implying the cholos are better or worse, I'm mexican btw, born and raised.

From my own experience, what I can tell you presently is that it's clearly a different experience when speaking about mexican-americans (mexican heritage living in the us) and mexican (born and raised).

The impression and / or idea you get in the us about mexicans is a little misleading, because you're mostly encountering mexican-americans.

From the interactions I've had with them 99% of the time I clearly see the same socio-economic level (which says more about me and where I like to go than about them).

By now they have their own thing regarding their integration into american society and culture, which further distances their identity from that of mexicans (born and raised). For instance, when you see them represented in entertainment (think gabriel iglesias, george lopez, cheech-chong, etc), they somehow communicate that mexican "thing", and they are funny people, but not that much if you're a mexican (born and raised) because you don't fully connect (unless you get both culture's references, us and mexico, like me)

But he's right, at least on the northern part of mexico, for Christmas we eat:

Turkey
Tamales (yes, that too)
Champurrado
Buuelos
Menudo

Anyway I guess they tend to celebrate and highlight more mexican things than we do since they're actually away from their original country. Also add that their problems are different than our problems.

Guess I was dealing with... stuff?

-------------------------------------------------------------

WHERE YOU PUT YOUR "SELF"

The reason why your personal boundry is easily penetrated and why what everyone else says you are you take as true, is because you believe it automatically, whatever bad thing or limitation they say you have, you accept it.

What you know about how you are, what you're like, what you like, what you don't, what your passions are and what your talents are you've buried, left behind and forgotten in order to live up to someone else's expectations, you have let others be your judge, you have left no time, energy or resources for the nourishment and growth of your own identity.

Your attitude has become cynical and you've just been wandering about your life in different groups, phases or whatever comes your way with no real preferences one way or the other. You've aquired habits and likings that are not in reality your own, some of wich you have taken too far and are brutally getting in your way.

You feel you dont deserve good things weather it's something you seek or something that comes your way, you think you are not worthy and everybody else is, that everybody else's goals and what they want is more imprtant and more critical than what you want.

You feel alone and think that the only way to get a "good" or "accepted" identity is to just do, think and act the way other people say is ok, means by wich you only get a mediocre and false sense of belonging that satisfies the other parties involved but not really yourself.

You get cought up in endless cycles of horrendous self talk that raises or lowers your "value" not by your own standards but by other people's, wich leads you to take these beliefs in as your own, thus acting and behaving based on a whole colage of ideas and beliefs wich ultimately builds you up to an amorphous "self" just running on auto-pilot without any real congruency, purpose or direction.

All the while knowing that that part of you wich wants to live a life of joy, harmony, brotherhood and love - a life in wich you're free to express yourself with no fear or insecurities whatsoever, is still inside you somewhere cast aside, waiting, hopefull and hurting every single moment you continue to let things stay the same and let life just drag you along, wich leaves you feeling disapointed, dissatisfied and angry.
