i've been using it since january, have had it brand new in my closet for a few years. lately it sounds like its making more noise, not sure why. the system doesn't feel hot, the vents are mostly cool, sometimes a little warm. i have windows 8.1, every time i try changing the power settings it goes back to a higher powered setting when i try to have it on balanced or power save.

not sure if i should be concerned about the sound? mostly everything behaves normally. i'm not sure what task manager does but was looking at it and CPU was usually 6%-15%. weird the disc part of it would sometimes shoot to 100, but then go back really low. i barely have anything on this laptop.

the anti-virus avira's schedule thing seemed to be the only thing moving the CPU. i'm not sure if avira is good to use since i use the free one. maybe i would be better off with microsoft security thing that's on all windows.

do i need ad-blocker if i have ublock origin? i hear ad-block consumes a lot. just trying to pin point the sound cause, of laptop fan i believe.

I have AOL too, what else are we supposed to use?

idk this is getting frustrating though. i just changed my aol password to be safe, i have the timezone as eastern U.S., sent an email to myself and it says 21:00.

I've seen some strange things happen that were due to changes or a problem on their end. I've give it a day or two.

yeah i meant to say the AOL homepage was set on EU. as a matter of fact, when i would type in AOL on google, EU pops on top of page. nothing else is doing this, just AOL. i still switched my PSN over to gmail for the time being as that's my most important online account.

why you still usin an aol email man

i've had this email for many years.

can you change your email for your PSN account? wasn't sure if you always needed the same one.

however any idea how to fix the time? it just keeps putting itself in military hours or something even though it says its in the timezone i'm in. if i can switch my email over i'll go for one of my gmail ones that i don't use.

not sure if the cat did something by accident or if i should change my password to be safe. :c

sleep mode is just convenient to return back to where you last left off. shutting down means awhile wait to use it again the next day. takes a few minutes before reaching the desktop, and then a few more minutes to wait on the desktop for your device to come alive enough to start using it and then searching down everything again that you were on. sleep mode kinda just brings you back immediately to everything you left off on doing.

Do you need it the second you wake up? Can't turn it on then go do a few morning duties?

That being said, you can leave it in sleep mode, just don't put it in a box.

not exactly, but for the sake of convenience and i might have left off on something i wanted to return back to. but wont put it in the box on sleep mode anymore, i'll either shut it down or...

i wish i could think of a safe spot in my room to put it whilst it gets air room but nothing comes to mind. with how my room is i could put it on top of the ps4 but not sure if putting the laptop on top of it would cause the ps4 in rest mode to over heat since that system runs warm in sleep mode.

Why not just shut it off?

If you dont feel airflow, then most likely its only taking enough power to wait for a wake up signal. It wont output too much heat. But I wouldnt put it in a case or a box overnight while in sleep mode regardless.

A lot of the time newer ones do not, or run very slowly, as their cooling systems release radiant heat very well, and cpus drop to super low power when not being utilized.

That being said, almost all systems will just simply shut down in case of any overheat. If its not on the next morning it may have done so.

Edit: However if youre putting in a box or case, shut it off. Even with fans running the trapped heat can still cause a problem.

i think its a 2012-2014 model, i've had it new in my closet for a few years. opened it up very early on this year.

do you think the fans run in sleep mode? when i close the lid i don't feel any air pushing out in the vents. my concern is if it goes through activation cycles that i'm unsure about where it might have like a light power on, since some devices do that.

Actually, I would like to know, too. I have an Asus, as well. And I use sleep mode quite often.

yeah when i did a google search for this last night before doing this nothing showed up for if this is the case or not. maybe i worded it wrong but didn't get the result i was looking for.

before bed i have started putting my laptop in its box on a grounded level in case the kitten knocks it over because yesterday he made it slide from jumping from it. most nights i put it in sleep mode when i'm done, so i put it in its box on the floor to be safe, my concern though was while its in a sleep mode state if the fans run at all, wouldn't want it to over heat.

not sure if model matters, like if some laptops do this or don't but mines an asus.

If you contact Yahoo, they'll sometimes get you in there or at least deactivate it if you can supply them older passwords.

@GanglyKhan

do you have to call or would you be able to contact them directly from the site? i would definitely prefer the account be deactivated at this point as i have no use for it.

anywhere from earlier this year to a year prior, because earlier this year i tried getting on it and it wouldn't let me. i hadn't used it in a whole year or so prior, but wanted to use it to access another account on it.

anyways i was wondering would anything come of it in the future like other accounts getting hacked, or has it been to long? i don't have any credit card or any sort of money online. my main concern would be my PSN account as i have lots of games on it.

with that yahoo account i had my gamestop account on it and my main AOL email as a recovery email, those were the two things linked to it and both were untouched. since then i've changed my gamestop information and on my main email i changed my recovery email to a different one. not sure if my main email is still on the yahoo one though even though i changed it on my AOL one to not be associated with it.

its been so long but sometimes i get anxiety over it.
