Because he's more recent and not as iconic as some of the rest. Most people who don't know him from his game would know him from Smash.

Also he went up against Sub-Zero, one of the iconic palette-swap ninjas from Mortal Kombat. Chances are more people who don't know either series would know one of the Mortal Kombat ninjas over Shulk.

I suppose then I can bring that to this contest. Let's say that the voter knows absolutely nothing about either character (Ellie or KOS-MOS) and has only name and appearances to go on. Neither are exactly the same level of iconic as some big-name video game characters. Whether they vote for the realistic-rendered teenage girl or the anime girl would depend on their values.

No I'm not. The Last Of us isn't even my favorite game. I like Jak and Daxter and Uncharted more actually. I don't care if other people don't like it. But when people say Xenosaga is better/more popular and that Kosmos is better than Ellie, that's when I get pissed. Sorry, I'm allergic to bullshit.

Still, not much reason to get angry about it when Ellie doesn't stand a chance later on anyway. Any given popular Nintendo or Square Enix character would bulldoze her along with the rest of the competition, because that's how it is on this site.

To be honest there are definitely times I'm going to vote for the mute or Pokemon or mascot over the "deeper character". I'm voting Charizard over basically anyone in the bracket including deep characters from games I've actually played.

I think if you went through every possible combination of characters, even from games you've played, you will eventually come to a situation where you would vote for the inferior "character" in the poll. And once I realised this I kinda got over it.

This is different though I guess. I think another problem is GameFAQs' shallow love for character design and names. "Ellie" is a meaningless name and face compared to blue-haired KOS-MOS.

Ellie has tons more meaning compared to a bland cardboard cutout like Kosmos. What kind of name is Kosmos anyway. Who names their child that? No one has played Xenosaga, why do you think it goes on unrereleased?

KOS-MOS is an android. A robot. Her creators can name her whatever they damn please.

She's going to lose hard when she inevitably has to go up against some big-name character if she ever keeps going.
Let's take a look at her bracket. Assuming she somehow gets past round 2, she'd most likely go up against Ryu in round 3, and then either Captain Falcon or Sephiroth in the div final.

Ethan did that too, and protagonists afterward beat up people with world-ending plots instead. Standing at the top of the mountain with level 80 pokemon? Any schmuck can do that if they wanted, and guess who beat him when he did that? That's right, Ethan.
