I'll go on record as not liking plea deals in general. There's a few too many innocent people who had no real option but to plea. That said, that's not what was happening here. I'm willing to see a criminal get off easier if it's the only way to make another criminal be caught.

I feel like a jury should weigh the testimony of someone on a plea deal along with the rest of the evidence and determine if the person getting the plea deal is credible.

The Democrats (DNC, I think, too tired to dig it up again) contacted the FBI over what they believe to be another attempt to illegally gain access to them today, for instance. Not to mention the warnings about Florida's election system being attacked and the various Congressional/Senators targeted. Heck, I saw a story a day or two ago that conservative think-tanks that had broken with Trump were being targeted.

Well Corrik is trying to say that Trump could use the defense that he didnt disclose because no one told him he had to, which makes it an unwilling violation and thus not a federal crime.

The issue there is, as Corrik also points out, that Trump isnt using that defense. Hes using the defense that he didnt know about the payments at the time. Which is demonstrably false thanks to the tapes.

So its a little hard now to credibly go back and say Oh I did always know about them, just not that it was a crime to not disclose.

His only defense here is that the payments were made for purely personal reasons and not political ones. Once it becomes political in nature it becomes a campaign finance violation (and omitted from his 2017 disclosure)

A lot of the points are valid, Im just not sure about the general thesis of corruption being a dog whistle from Republicans.

Rule of Law absolutely IS a racist dog whistle, and I can see the bridge from that to corruption, I just cant drive over it.

I honestly think that most Trumpers genuinely believe no one in the Trump campaign, including Manafort, Flynn, even COHEN, has ever committed any crimes that have yet to be paid to society.
