Even if they still had cartridges with custom chip layouts, at this point it would probably be automated anyway. List the needs of the game, do some basic constraint-based optimization to find the right combination of chips, test each valid set using a separate layout solver to determine which one has the more efficient use of board space, and then report on the cost, power, performance, and heat requirements for all valid combinations so the designer can pick the one right for the project.

You could probably build a small tool capable of doing it in a year, less if you let a developer use python, which would work for all current and future chipsets.

Never thought about Bill Burr like that. He's in my top 3. Probably because I look at most comedians like I look at my own humor. Just saying shit cause it's funny regardless of if it's something I believe. I been accused of being on pretty much every side because not everyone registers Im just saying the 1st dumb thing that comes to me. Best one mechanically. 1 has the best world and atmosphere, BY FAR. 2 is... Somewhere in the middle. It's a little better than one when it comes to controls, imo, and the world is more open than 3. It sticks with the "choose your own path" approach that 1 has, which is a huge plus, but many of the areas just aren't memorable for me. 3 has superior gameplay/aesthetics (imo), and has memorable areas, but the choice of direction was extremely streamlined. You pretty much just went one way, with only a handful of instances of choosing your own path.

The dream was that the remaster of the first game was going to have the engine of 3. That would have been amazing.

And also a finished Lost Izalith, while we're dreaming.

I agree. From a raw technical perspective I think it's the most refined out of all of them, and I can't comment on the PVP, but the level design is like halfway between 1 and 3, the bosses aren't as inspired as in DS1 or the DS2 DLC, and the plot is kind of a mess because it's trying to wrap up something that I don't think was ever designed to have a conclusion.

Doubtful. More likely they were planned but canceled after the disastrous launch.

It's possible that it and the perk cards were originally planned to be bought through microtransactions. Heck, they have a future expansion vault already in the base game, just sealed off though.

I wouldn't put it past them to make them be implemented at some point though.

It's pretty clear the entire perk card system was designed explicitly to support a gatcha style loot box economy.
