Can't remember much about DQ VI honestly. Played the SNES version around 10 years ago. Overall I was disappointed because it wasn't as good as V (which I still find as, the third best JRPG on the SNES behind Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy V).

If I tiered the DQ games I've played I'd do:

XI (Currently 30 hours in, absolutely blowing me away with production quality)
V
VIII
VI
IX

VI had some pretty graphics on the SNES, I don't know how they look on the DS.
DQ VIII is an absolutely stunning PS2 title.

i really like dq3, dq1 and I'd play dq7 more if i didn't have to hook up a ps2 everytime
i play dq11 during the day

seriously if you want to play a game like ff15 just play dark souls 3, monster hunter world or god of war
ff15 is a mixture of mmorpg and action but I dunno it just wasnt fun the first hour
the characters took me out of the game too much

if you like fantasy games to play before bedtime, after a meal then dragon quest 11 is your go

it's not a lot of money it's just barely livable
