Shaving isn't very barbaric.

More than likely because Conan, if he had a beard, wouldn't have lasted long as a fighter. It's a historical fact that none of the Roman centurions and soldiers had beards because, in battle, that would be the first thing their opponent would grab in order to gain advantage. That's why all the Roman soldiers were clean shaven.

That's completely not true. It was simply not considered distinguished.

The Romans in early times wore long hair and full beards, as did uncivilized peoples. Varro tells us that professional barbers first came to Rome in the year 300 B.C., but we know that the razor and shears were used by the Romans long before history begins. Pliny the Elder says that the Younger Scipio (died 129 B.C.) was the first Roman to shave every day, and the story may be true. People of wealth and position had the hair and beard kept in order by their own slaves; these slaves, if they were skillful barbers, brought high prices in the market. People of the middle class went to public barber shops, and gradually made them places of general resort for the idle and the gossiping. But in all periods the hair and beard were allowed was a sign of sorrow, and were the regular accompaniments of the mourning garb already mentioned. The very poor went usually unshaven and unshorn; this was the cheap and easy fashion.

Styles of wearing hair and beard varied with the years of the persons concerned and with the period. The hair of children, boys and girls alike, was allowed to grow long and hang around the neck and shoulders. When the boy assumed the togaof manhood, the long locks were cut off, sometimes with a good deal of formality, and under the Empire they were often made an offering to some deity.

In the classical period young men seem to have worn close-clipped beards; at least Cicero jeers at those who followed Catiline for wearing full beards, and on the other hand declares that their companions who could show no signs of beard on their faces were worse than effeminate. Mature men wore the hair cut short and the face shaved clean. Most of the portraits that have come down to us

show beardless men until well into the second century of our era, but after the time of Hadrian the full beard became fashionable.

Yeah, I know, but I'm thinking of this like buying a car. You have to also have a personal preference as well, not just buy any old thing that'll pump out 9mm rounds.

I could get a Glock G17 and be "okay" but I always liked the design of the M9/92FS and the M9A3 has that nice tan finish and the suppressor threading on the barrel.

A glock17 is a great reliable gun, though. Even more so if you're going to carry.

My glock 30s is my favorite carry gun.

That hits the nail on the head, bro. Excuses are just a way of being a quitter who never tries.

that's easy to say but a lot of people with aspergers also have depression. it can really fuck with your motivation to improve yourself

Which sucks, and isn't easy to overcome but the other option is to be lonely and feel like shit all the time. The motivation has to come fro the individual but there are resources and the likes that would help find a better baseline and allow for a more fulfilling life.
Comorbidities are common in nearly all mental health disorders, but saying "it's not that easy" when the person isn't actively trying isn't fair. No, it wouldn't be easy, but in truth social interactions are hard in general and everyone has to work on them. Not to say someone with ASD doesn't have to work significantly harder, but if that person isn't trying at all it's hard to empathize with that.

Youre jumping to the conclusion that they arent trying, or even making progress.

I'm using contextual clues to make an assumption. Jumping to conclusions would be to guess at comorbidities as a rationale for them not succeeding.
But unfortunately, without a clinical diagnosis in hand we're all jumping to conclusions. It's the natural progression of this type of discussion.

What if the people that I seek support from are so goddamn annoying that they make me retract even more socially.

I'd like context here. How are they annoying? What specifically bothers you about you're interactions with them.

They're annoying because they stare and smile at me, they try to talk to me when I don't want to except for when I need something from them, and at the end I'm just thinking to myself "Why are talking to me?".

Okay, lets table the social ques during actual interaction, because that's an unfortunate symptom of ASD. when you say they don't talk to you when you need something what do you mean?

Asperger's is now just ASD and it's considered high functioning. This person should, by most accounts be able to live a relatively typical life despite some social behavioral issues. Being high functioning autistic doesn't excuse laziness or unwillingness. Yes, those two things might be harder to overcome for this person. The relationship thing is just lack of social skills and interactions. When fixing the problem of being lazy and unwilling to get into the work force this person will likely find a new social interest.

Also, don't confuse being introverted and being bad at going out. Introverted people aren't lacking social engagement skills in anyway.

If we get anymore books out of him maybe theyll be bad because he is just forcing himself to write them.

Speaking of Sanderson though, its been thirteen years and he STILL hasnt written the sequel to Elantris.

I don't think he did. I think he took on more projects and wants to try himself in other genres. He has a plan for Dresden so I think we'll get more.

Literally the first two lines of the article:
Police are warning residents after sewing needles and a nail were found inside candy given to children in Massachusetts and New Hampshire on Halloween.

The tainted candy was distributed in the Brant Rock area of Marshfield, Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard and in Salem, New Hampshire, according to police.

That's two different states, and the towns aren't close by each other. Martha's Vineyard is literally an island off the coast of MA.

My guess is that the mother is the one that put the needle there for attention

They even claim that it was a tiny needle with no visible puncture mark, so was she seriously bending every piece of candy to make sure there was no needles while also being the one family that happened to get a twiddler with needles in it?

If it were legit youd think it would have happened to more families

25 years for attempted murder? Some actual murderers don't even get that long.

Actual murders are always 25 to life unless there is a deal made.
Hell, one of my workers in the high profile unit (aka murder's and gang leaders) just got sentenced to natural life. Meaning no parole or good behavior. He cannot leave jail until he dies.

Poor bastard didn't take the deal which was 20 years because he was convinced he'd get crime of passion and get it bumped down to a manslaughter charge for 10 years. Having already served 3 in the jail.
He also spent weeks ranting to me about how he doesn't understand why he can't write his kids. He said he knows his inlaws have temporary custody but when he gets out he'll be their guardian again.

Hope is an amazing thing. This was a smart, well educated man. He found out his wife was cheating on him, sent a text to her boyfriend saying you have 10 minutes to get to our house and get her out or I'm going to kill her. Sent his kids to sit on the front lawn, called his mother to pick them up said don't come in the house. Killed her (after the 10 minutes) and sent her boyfriend and family pictures of her body.
But didn't see how that could be considered premeditated.

I'm rambling.

Doesn't sound very smart and educated to me.

You can be smart and educated and still do dumb things, sounds like the dude was over-confidant as heck about his case.

I agree with this. Not to mention, I believe he said was. Like as in past tense. But either way, you can do dumb things when smart. And he did seem pretty over-confident...

He also has antisocial personality disorder and has trouble rationalizing how a jury of 12 people couldn't understand his logic. He was so focused on himself, even when discussing his children it was about how they're his and he has custody. Never a mention of their needs or feelings on the subject of him brutally murdering their mother. A lack of perspective and empathy doesn't make someone less intelligent and he has formal higher education. He is mentally atypical and he was arrogant and that lead him to being hopeful that he'd get out so much so that he couldn't take into account a normal, rational person's feelings.
