Most people's extent of their knowledge on asbestos is that it's bad. That's it. Black and white issue in their mind.

Not to say that it isn't harmful, not to say I know much about it either, but obviously asbestos isn't all bad by definition if it's used in a necessary stage of manufacturing processes for products and goods that people use.

Last I checked Carcinogens are bad.

That's like saying "sharp things are bad because they injure and kill people". It's ignoring the fact that sharp things can be used to our benefit. Asbestos prevents fires. That much I know is true. Is it so hard to see why preventing fires is a benefit?

The EPA wouldn't allow the product to be used if it was unsafe. Clearly, these use cases would not impact anyone.

Asbestos is unsafe, period.

I'm pretty sure it would be barred if it did not have some safe applications.

Im sorry but taking an extreme stance on either side shows a lack of understanding. Asbestos is dangerous and therefore should be handled carefully, but it exists for a reason.

Asbestos doesn't affect my daily life because's it's been banned for years and I haven't had to come into contact with it, as it should be. wtf

He's technically not totally wrong. He's just giving examples. I provide my ID multiple times per week for various reasons---it's really quite routine.

And, sometimes, it is during grocery shopping. Some items are age restricted in many areas, and that can sometimes include household or vehicle cleaning products and medication and of course alcohol and cigarettes---and depending on the store, some clerks will ask you for an ID to match with your credit card.
