It's one of a few RPGs that made me feel legitimately suspenseful. The scene at the top of Fort Dragonia got my heart rate up way more than it had any right to, and the story in general had me legitimately hooked the whole way through. It also explores mature themes like racism, identity, and the moral ambiguity of your actions with surprising grace given its more childish writing style and visuals. Cross in general is a very mature game that respects your intelligence. Additionally, the CG animations still look absolutely amazing today, unlike FDVII. Cross also has some of the most visually interesting locations in any RPG I've played. The Dead Sea is an obvious one, but what other RPG has you move through an M.C. Esther-like location that looks like it was drawn in crayon? The soundtrack has already been praised to death, so I won't do it here, but it must be said that Scars of Time is an absolute banger. Gameplay's also great; no location is just an old one with a new map and new enemies; each area has a unique mechanic that gives them their own personality. The battle system is also great; the higher crit chance on a heavy attack with a higher chance of missing and not getting to use your higher magic makes most battles actually interesting. My only real gripe is that enemies attack seemingly at random and that they can spam magic all they like without using a ohysical attack, but there's not much you can do about that. Oh PUHLEASE. All that build up for something completely stupid. The game felt rushed just because of that. CC was made during a time where Square was trying ULTRA hard to make a shitstorm of a plot where it felt confusing the audience and filled things with mystery was the way to go, as a way to make their games full of depth. They tried this with Xenogears as well. It was a bait and switch. The plot is nonsense. And you I think you're making this game way more than it really actually is. --- Don't like it? Don't watch it.
