I've literally not listened to the new song yet, but AOA just reestablished themselves with their latest single. It's 3rd on the charts behind Bobbalgan4 (Digital Monsters) and BTS (possibly biggest K-Pop group ever).

What musical genre do you usually like? we could probably recommend a band that has those styles.

Been through this with some friends over the years. Nothing really clicked. My friend that is a K-Pop obsessed guy (his whole room is K-Pop stuff and he travels cross country and even to Canada for shows). He loves A Pink and I remember him listening to Girls Generation. An old ex loved 2NE1. I listened to them as well as Big Bang, Black Pink, Red Velvet, Super Junior and G-Friend off the top of my head.

I don't really have a favorite genre as I listen to anything that interests me so I am all over the place. Depends on my mood at any given time. As typical as this sounds, I like Psy the most. IIRC, one of those guy groups above have a similar sound and video style to Psy which made me impressed with Psy since he outperformed an entire group by himself in his videos which are insane. That being said, I don't really like Gangnam Style that much. I like Gentleman and Daddy far more.

I notice the boy groups appeal to me more, namely the ones that have more of a hip hop or R&B sound. I guess the short of it is more stuff like Psy but it seemed pretty obvious when I was going over groups that Psy is one of those unique personalities you can't really emulate so he stands alone in style and sound.

I said most. It is probably more of an issue with the cute bubblegum pop songs. I don't usually care what they're saying anyway.

It honestly just depends on the group. Groups with members who do a lot of writing and even composing will typically have much stronger lyricism in their songs.

Isn't this a silly topic? Music is a universal language, and there's nothing that says only Koreans can enjoy K-Pop. In fact, Korea has a very small music market and they rely heavily on the exportation of their music to consumers outside of the domestic consumers.

Not only that, K-Pop artists make a concerted effort to reach out to their international fans--they hold fanmeets, they have their members learn English, they hold international tours, they'll subtitle their variety shows.

And that's without getting into the nuances of K-Pop that draw in so many people and continue to draw in exponentially more.

I really don't get what is hard to understand about non-Koreans loving K-Pop. The industry would be nowhere near what it is today without successfully exporting K-Pop to international audiences through the infamous "Hallyu Wave."

That's just silly. They've put up numbers way bigger than any girl group not named Twice, Red Velvet, Mamamoo, BlackPink or GFriend.

Also why are you putting such a heavy emphasis on physical sales? Twice sells more albums than the 4 other top girl groups combined times 3-4.

That doesn't mean they're not extremely successful groups regardless.

Sistar, Kara, Wonder Girls and Miss A are some of the most successful girl groups of all time, and they never had high album sales.

For girl groups, at the end of the day, it's public recognition and digital performance that matters most, and Momoland is currently dominant in both areas in ways only top girl groups can relate.

And going back to their Japanese fanmeetings, please don't compare a bunch of ifans who stream youtube but never buy anything to Japan losing its shit over Momoland, lining up by the thousands just to see them and buying every album available at every store.

You have a very distorted view of what it takes to be a successful girl group. For instance, Mamamoo became a top girl group before their album sales became respectable. So did GFriend. The same can happen for Momoland.

You go find me a mid-tier girl group that has accomplished what Momoland has, as listed below:

MV approaching 100 million views
100k likes on Melon
Song charting in the Top 2 on Melon
Currently the 2nd highest Gaon Digital Index Score behind only Ikon's Love Scenario, the likely SOTY
6-7 Music Show wins, including a win in 4 consecutive months (only Twice has done this)
25,000 people showing up to their Japanese fanmeet (Again, only Twice pulls in these numbers)
Top 3 in the brand reputation index, with multiple members topping the individual brand reputation index

Again, find me the middle tier girl group with those accomplishments and I'll relent.

But I know I'll be waiting a long, long, long time.

Also, please note I never said Momoland was on the same level as the Big 5 girl groups; I just disagree with your logic and downgrading of their stellar accomplishments in just 4 months. It's something Crayon Pop NEVER did, and there are a lot of positive signs in Momoland's favor.

If they get another big hit, by all objective measurements, Momoland is going to be a top girl group.

Do they have a better shot than crayon pop? sure but what i said still stands, its one song that caught some momentum, its meaningless if they cant follow up and judging by their album sales it hasnt exactly brought in a ton of actual fans so they will be relying solely on the public to stay relevant. And even if they do have any sort of decent response for their next song it still wouldnt put them on the level of groups like twice, rv, bp, and mamamoo.

25,000 people showed up to their events in Japan. Their albums sold out everywhere. There were massive lines and queues of people to see them.

Momoland has been consistently a top girl group in brand reputation with multiple members appearing in and even topping the individual girl group member brand reputation index.

Bboom Bboom isn't just a hit song; it's a super hit song. It has over 100k likes on Melon, is still winning music shows and the MV will be the first girl group MV to pass 100 million views.

Unlike Crayon Pop, the group has way more members to stan and is bringing in a ton of international fans, as evidenced by the youtube views.

If Momoland has another hit song, they are well on their way to becoming a top girl group.



You can't watch that and think they're going away any time soon.
