In that analogy, it's more you're a bungee jump fella on the bridge and you're prepping someone, that person thinks there should be a backup cord in case the main one fails, and you're adamant it's not needed and walk off that bridge already. Most people would, the cord breaks once, boom, then the internet has hindsight.

Eyewitness reports say the attendant was told there was a dog in the pet carrier (which you can see is a pet carrier anyway so can be assumed), and she told the woman literally "put your dog up there" so the attendant knew.

The dog could be heard a little, but it was thought to be just your general dog yelping.

I'm sure now the woman wishes she threw her money away and walked off the flight, but she put too much trust in the knowledge and experience of the employees. Easy to say it's dumb in hindsight.

United Airlines shockingly have a history of this. Multiple dead dogs in horriffic ways, as well as shit like that video of them knocking a guy out and throwing him off the plane because THEY overbooked.

Fuck them, viciously.
