It wasn't really that open. It happened in a hotel lobby and she was half hidden behind a pillar at an angle where she could see me, plus it was like 4am. I didn't even know at first, until I noticed she was breathing louder and occasionally moaning. What a joke. DUI is one of the most repeated offenses in the US. Go to a state like New Mexico or Texas. The penalties for DUI are a joke, hence you will see some people with 8+ DUI's. There was a story in a town I used to live in New Mexico where this guy just got out of prison for killing someone while intoxicated ended up killing another person while intoxicated again not more than a week after he got out of prison because of severely lax punishment.

Throw the book at offenders like this and get rid of these lax punishments and you have a better chance of dropping the DUI crimerate.

Do you really think college partiers are going to give a shit about manslaughter/murder sentencing time when they binge drink? The goal should always be to rehabilitate. In this case, correcting the mentality that put this woman in a situation that carelessly killed. And then adjusting her back into society as an adult that makes healthier decisions.
