Retro systems are way more bulletproof than modern platforms.

Indeed... I wish old computers lasted as long, though.

They do, as long as they are computers that are "pre-hard drives" and relied only on RAM (besides tape or disk drives). My Commodore 64 runs perfectly fine to this day. In fact, I still dial into Commodore BBSes with it. My Apple IIgs is still working great as well too. Many expansion cards are still being sold and actively developed for the old Apple IIs.

I would probably side with Clerks 1...but it is a tough decision. Today I feel like Clerks 1 is better, but tomorrow, I will probably feel Clerks 2 is better. Heh.

And, I am surprised there are people who didn't enjoy the Clerks cartoon. I thought it was amazing.

Hulu has been acting up for us the last few days on our TiVo Roamio. Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime are fine..so, you aren't the only one with Hulu problems recently!

I just figured that the Hulu app on TiVo was just not working properly anymore after an update to the TiVo box.

Christmas of 1987 (still my best Xmas ever) we got the regular NES bundle that just came with the console deck, two control pads, and the packed-in, STAND ALONE Super Mario 1. Additionally that Xmas, we got Legend of Kage, Kung-Fu, Rush 'N Attack, and the biggie, Zelda 1.

We didn't get a Zapper until a few months later, I think, for my brother's birthday, as I remember having our dad take us to Target and pulling the "pull ticket" for the Zapper, along with Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, and Gumshoe, I believe.

Much later on, after we wore our original deck down, it broke down, and instead of getting it fixed, my dad bought us the PowerPad pack and then I had the three-way combo that is mentioned above.

Same year me and my brother got ours!

We too had the standalone pack in version and a copy of Kung Fu (wanted Karate Champ really as I wasted so many 10p pieces on that in the arcades). Great times.

I think the Xmas of 1987 was when Nintendo saw the huge influx of new customers/sales. Zelda 1 had those two awesome (at the time, now kinda silly) commercials and the word-of-mouth on Zelda was definitely circulating around the playgrounds of 1987.

Years later, we got a SNES the first Christmas it was available (1991?). And even though the SNES release was such a big deal to my brother and I at the time, it didn't quite match the Christmas of 1987 and the attachment we had for the NES. Love that system, and I am now raising my kids on my old 8-bit carts now too (along with Atari 2600).

I've never actually seen the stand-alone cart in person before. I was surprised when I first found out such a thing even existed.

That's funny, as I mentioned above that the stand-alone was my initial copy, and I think, vice versa, I didn't know the combo carts existed until I got that replacement NES with the Power Pad!

TopicWhat's the best RPG on the SNES?

I voted FFIII (or VI), but I prefer FF II (or IV). Maybe it is the same reason that someone else mentioned, but it really was the first RPG that I beat and holds a special attachment. I had FF 1 and Dragon Warrior 1 on NES, but never got very far in them. Do we consider Zelda 1 a RPG? If so, that was actually the first one I beat, but I can see that being more of an "adventure" or "action rpg" rather then a traditional RPG.

Cecil, Kain, Rydia, Tellah, Edward the "Spoony Bard," and FuSoYa all have a special place in my heart.

Love the sprouts at Jimmy John's!

I also like Jimmy John's and Jersey Mike's better than Subway. I think it is generally agreed on that both of those chains have higher quality meat and ingredients than Subway does.

If I had to pick one, however, I would choose Jersey Mike's. My wife would pick Jimmy John's.

tapes deteriorate every time they're used, they deteriorate from just sitting there, and can be destroyed with magnets

they do not last longer than discs

Tell that to my tapes that are still functional from Saturday Morning Cartoons 1985. If you store them correctly and only use them very occasionally, they can last longer than disc.

We've had its successor for 10 years, it's absolutely obsolete.

Doesn't mean all those DVDs now have Blu Ray versions released. It is an older anime I was trying to watch.

Actually, you could say that about certain movies that are on VHS and never got released on DVD! :) One cult classic from the 80s that I wish they would put on DVD/Blu-Ray for the USA (it got released in Europe) is "Electric Dreams" from 1984.

One thing that VHS is still superior in is archiving. Tape seems to last longer than discs when stored in the right conditions.

I have had a NES since 1987. I somehow missed Pirates! on NES and still have yet to play the NES version. I first was exposed to Pirates! on the Genesis with Pirates! Gold by renting it at Blockbuster. Loved the series ever since and promptly went and bought the MS-DOS version of Pirates! Gold (as I had heard the PC version was the way to go).

The Xbox version of the Remake is good, but it lacks ground combat/search parties on land. The PC version of the Remake has that in there and, for me, it adds to the game. They actually had to take out one of the cities on the Xbox version (Vera Cruz?) because it was only accessible by land (I think it was on the Pacific-side of Central America).

One of these days, I need to find a complete copy of the NES version and give it a whirl!

The NES port of Ultima 3.
It didn't even have an ending. It just stopped.

I only ever played Ultima 3 on PC, so I did not know this. So, I guess if I want to play Ultima 3 again, stick to the Apple ][ or MS-DOS version, eh?

Though it is not a chain, the best burger I have ever eaten in my life is at Zip's in Cincinnati.
