Mega Man 11 (PS4)

Another very fun Mega Man game. Difficulty balance is weird, once you get the hang of the Double Gear system the platforming isn't that hard, and it's very easy to stock up on bolts and therefore lives/E-tanks. However, the first few levels when you don't have the parts yet can be pretty brutal. Wily's castle is actually pretty easy this time around due to the combination of these two elements, but enjoyable. Really liked the visuals, music was good too, if not incredibly memorable due to its style. Best stage select music though. I think this one ranks around the upper-middle for me in terms of classic Mega Man, certainly one of the better ones.

I'm sure I'll be playing this more often in the future. Still have to beat the X games from the second X Legacy Collection, but I'm dreading those a little. Never played X4-X8 before, I did beat the X5 mavericks already but X5's main gimmick and some of its design choices just baffle me, so I don't like it much, and it's going to get mostly worse from there from what I've gathered. X4 was fun though.

Mega Man X4

With that, the first X Legacy Collection is finished. I had never played MMX4 before. but I certainly enjoyed it. Nevertheless, I don't think it's the best MMX there is. I love the upgrades, they are a lot of fun and it allows you to finally play with boss weapons without worrying about energy (although that also makes parts a bit easy). However, not all stages are that great, and I was flabbergasted by the final stages which were incredibly short with easy bosses. The final boss (oh em gee who could it be) made up for that by being so long that dying is extremely easy, adding almost an hour of game time, which admittedly was partly my fault for just playing bad.

Still, I have always loved the music and Maverick designs in this one, and that's still the case. Overall, great Mega Man title. Now onto the second X Legacy Collection. Oh boy...I'm afraid those four are going to be the trainwrecks everyone thinks they are, but we'll see.

As per owning the Mega Man X Legacy Collections...

Mega Man X
Already beaten before through emulation, but great to just do it on a tv with my controller.

Mega Man X2
Same thing.

Mega Man X3
Also same thing. I want to add that I struggled with the final boss and I had literally one last attempt to do it before time ran out and I'd have had to go and power off the PS4, and then under the pressure I actually did it so that was really nice (still almost messed up the final sequence but had enoigh health to survive that...)

Now finally moving on to the X games I've never played! Already beat Web Spider and Split Mushroom (those rotating staircases made my eyes bleed).

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

Great game, loved it all the way through. I went into it seeing it as more of an RPG than a Turn Based Strategy game, and that helped a lot to enjoy the gameplay. The maps weren't great usually, but powering up my army was fun and made sense in the story. Which, by the way, was presented really well and had me hooked.

Bloodborne - The Old Hunters DLC

I had already beaten the main game a long time ago, but I had never played the DLC that also came with the package I bought. Best DLC ever. The bosses were mostly incredible, the atmosphere is the real deal and overall it just feels like Bloodborne should be played with this included everytime (I feel less like that with DS3's DLC for example). Tons of awesome new weapons. Highlight was beating the Orphan with no vials left and both of us needing one more hit to win. That was so intense. Made up for all the times in any game where I died to a boss when I needed to hit just once more for the kill!

Assassin's Creed II (PS3)

Really good game. Took me a long time to get to it, but it was a much better experience than AC1 and what I've played of Unity. Still, the controls and auto-climbing gets annoying quite often, but at least the story and characters were really interesting. Not an overabundance of pointless collectables and sidequests either, it was well balanced.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS, played on PS3)
And with that, the last Metroidvania-style Castlevania I still had to play and beat is finished. I completed the maps. Definitely an amazing game as expected, partly because of the incredible soundtrack, but some later games did improve on it a little in terms of balancing and variety. Also, I can't remember a single boss being challenging, the final one could at least rack up some damage with its size, but at that point I knew I could slice away quicker at the boss than the other way around. Oh, wait, there is one boss that's obviously very hard...until you find out you can use some of your overpowered equipment to cheese it, like a certain beryl circlet.

I will miss these Castlevania games. :(

Agreed, it's so much fun! However, the fun quickly disappeared after beating it. The game overloads you with Power Moons. That is great initially, until you start becoming oversatiated with rewards. That's why I think the Galaxy games are still better, because there are just so many different and creative levels in them. Nevertheless, Odyssey is amazing in its own right, but so far haven't felt like getting all the power moons.

Red Dead Redemption (PS3)

Late to the party, started it a few times but quit early every time. Now I stuck with it though. Amazing game (as expected). Still, open world and therefore not my absolute favorite game gameplay-wise, but I will remember the story, characters and setting for a long time, definitely.

Now onto Castlevania: Symphony of the Night which I've been really looking forward to playing!

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus HD (PS3)

Very short, mostly very easy, but very fun. I'm not a fan of the typical collect-a-thon final level with tons of minigame-styled levels, but it is what it is. Also got the platinum, but that may have been the quickest and easiest platinum ever.
