Topic[VGMCXX #Reloaded] Wind Garden/Douse Shinundakara, Deadman Falling/Promised Pain

Day 4 let's go!

Douse Shinundakara sets up with that bass and strings section at the beginning, as it continues on a woodwind instrument starts to play (sounds like bassoon?l), and as the song hits its apex - a piano starts to play. The lyrics serve as a melody that connects the whole song - notably, the singer repeats the same lyrics that begins at the start of the song.

I haven't played Gravity Rush, but from what I know, the lyrics are in a made-up language - as well as a track from the sequel, Gravity Rush 2.

Gusty Garden Galaxy is orchestral. Violins, bass, strings - the exception is a guitar that plays throughout the song. Unlike Douse Shinundakara, Gusty Garden's melody play constantly throughout the song - and I think this is to lesser effect.

---

Promised Pain is too slow for my liking - it's not interesting enough. There's the beat, I guess... but apart from that... eh.

Deadman falling on the other hand, I hadn't heard before - the accordian, fast paced snare drum beat, violin/la and the glockenspiel all combine together in order to make a song that sounds like it's moving forward at very fast speeds - but cohesively, I guess? It's weird. I like it.

---

This one's pretty easy. Whims of Fate, no contest. She Wants Me Dead just sounds like annoying dubstep-trap, while Whims of Fate is really funky - organ riffs in the background, and a bass playing over the energetic vocals in the game - I feel like Whims of Fate would work even without this leading melody. A bongo/drum beat goes steadily through the song.

Meanwhile... DE-DE-DEDEDE-DEDE - it's annoying. Bleh.

-

My votes:

Douse Shinundakura
Deadman falling
Whims of Fate

OK, finally got some time to have a vote.

=

OK. Mango Tango would be my vote if there was more to the song. But there's too much empty space, and it feels like the vocals are the lead instrument, so you're waiting for the song to loop back to the beginning - and that space could easily be taken up by another vocal portion or something. And the empty space only gets bigger over time, from 15, to 30, to 60 seconds.

Whereas Neo Kobe City leads up to its chorus part slowly - starting with the bassline, then introducing the trumpet 25 seconds in with a police siren - eventually it gets to the chorus melody. Afterwards, it has some canned sound effects, before moving back to that beginning melody from the first part - except this time, there's string instruments; and it runs through the melody (discounting the siren), getting to the chorus.

At the point where it would go to the sound effects before, it instead decides to do a trumpet solo for the rest of the song. The song's well structured, and that's why I like it more than City Streets 2 (Mango Tango)

=

funny wooping noises in the background vs. generic metal wailing. let's go! The reason I'm voting for Besaid over Laguerra Del Mundo is because the beat of Besaid actually managed to keep my attention for the whole song, unlike Laguerra Del Mundo; where I basically stopped listening within the first ten seconds.

=

Sunrise Purple has a shuffling beat, a friendly-sounding bass pattern, and a chiming FM synth lead with occasional key interludes. I like it, and it sounds house-ish, I guess? Most importantly, it all connects.

Xeus on the other hand just feels like a bunch of keyboard riffs and string instruments being played over an ambient background up until the lead melody starts around a minute in... for around a minute, before it fades out for a minute of more ambient background and strings. I like the parts where that lead melody actively plays, but when it doesn't; it frustrates me.

=

My votes are:

One Night In Neo Kobe City
Besaid Island
Sunrise Purple

Updating thru 480. Just a reminder that I have the following error messages from the script:

User, Flamander has too many doubles! Dropping double for The Flyin' King

Alright, cool. It was only gonna be a filler anyways.

Replacing a track that isn't getting votes with a new one that might.

- OutRunners | Picture The Rivers |

+ beatmania iidx 17 SIRIUS | D |

Also, my fourth and fifth doubles.

+ Pokemon Clover | Justin Smith John |

- Ollie King | Something Jazzy For Your Mind |

++ Earthworm Jim 2 | The Flyin' King |

I unsupported Earthworm Jim because it wasn't being supported. Now it is, so I thought I'd vote for it. As I didn't have anything else to use my final double on apart from another support - there's no songs up that I really like at the moment and would nominate alongside the rest of my nominations - I used it to double my Earthworm Jim vote. I also removed Ollie King to make room because it wasn't getting any support.

re: Flamander's noms-- Flamander's double of Douse Shinundakara was misspelled, which may have contributed to the parser's discarding of one nomination

re: Scrum Debate's merits as a nomination-- I'm not the biggest Danganronpa series soundtrack fan but I like Scrum Debate a lot and was considering it as a support before it got pushed well above the bubble; I think it'll do reasonably well-- definitely worth its spot

Ah. That'd explain it, yeah.

- Gravity Rush | Douse Shinandakura |

OK, I should have 20 now.

Fillin' up the rest of my list.

+ Ridge Racer | Speedster |

+ Neo Turf Masters | BADEN National Golf Course - Germany |

I really want to double Neo Turf Masters!! It's such a good track.

Going out so I can support people:

- English Training DS | Title Screen |

Good, but literally no one's going to support it. Funny, though.

- Earthworm Jim 2 | The Flyin' King |

No one's going to support this track either. Goes on for too long before it gets good I think.

Supporting:

+ Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure | Phantom R's Theme |

I like this track. Very classical.

Looking at what songs I have that are high right now...

+ Gravity Rush | Douse Shinandakura |

I feel this song is pretty much locked in my list, though its double status may change.

+ Danganronpa V3 | Scrum Debate |

Extremely hesitant to put this up to 4. It's catchy, but I don't think it'll get very far against some of the other songs. I feel like another song from the OST would work better. Anyways, it's still Masafumi Takada, and I like him - so until something better shows up, this'll be my vote.

+ Asuka 120% Burning Fest | Torami Stage |

At the moment, three points two people is enough to definitely get your game in. Since someone else voted for this song, and I want this song in, I doubled it.

However...

- Persona 5 | The Whims Of Fate |

With both Rivers in the Desert and Life Will Change getting up there in votes, I feel that I don't really need to vote for Persona 5.

Also, I just realized I put down the completely wrong song for Grounseed Shop Demo in the first place. Was looking at two songs from the game at the time - looks like I put down the wrong one to use? Gonna do another nomination.

Hmmm...Activation's about as good as Grounseed Shop Demo, imo, and it seems to be getting a bit of support.

- Grounseed | Grounseed Shop Demo |

+ YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World | Activation |

also undoubling my X-men track, after much deliberation. It's probably not gonna get supported, and I'd like both tracks I like and tracks that are actually going to get supported. Here Comes The Hero fits the first, but not the second criteria for my noms.

- X-Men | Here Comes The Hero |

and switching lunatic rough party to something better - the track's good, but the in-game version cuts off right before it gets good. Was considering , but I changed my mind.

- Sound Voltex II | Lunatic Rough Party |

+ Beatmania iidx 25 CANNON BALLERS | Nothing But Theory |

I definitely saw X-Men and Asuka 120% in the same vote and thought "hmmm i wonder if it could be", and sure enough lmao. Glad to see others showin' up too

that battle mania daiginjou song is super hot btw, there's hints of like four other different composers' styles in there i'm diggin' it

Haha, yeah. Apparently, looking at the stuff the composers that worked on it has done; they've mostly stuck to working with each other in most games they've composed for. My guess is that it might be a track from Socket that was reworked for Battle Mania Daiginjou, given that both games were released by the same company (Vic Tokai) in the same year (1993). Who knows, though? Certainly a good track.

Ah, you should play. It's easily the best of the three. So good.

I really should. So many games to play, so little time.

quick adjustment to my last nom:

- Sound Voltex II | Lunatic Rough Party |

+ Sound Voltex II | Lunatic Rough Party |

I was using the long version, which is part of the OST - had to find the shorter version that actually plays in game. I do recommend people to listen to the full version, though. It's really good.

That MUSECA nom up above by MycroProcessor reminded me that I should probably make a rhythm game nom.

Another support. I think it's too early to tell what's getting supported or not. I'd throw a vote Gokinjo Boukentai's way, but it doesn't need it imo. It's pretty much the leader of the pack - four votes, versus banbard's three votes. Every other song is below it except for Scars of Fauna, which has a double vote.

I feel that double votes are best used to break ties and get that extra step ahead. Use them too early, and you waste them trying to build an advantage on something that isn't there. Use them too late, and they're useful; but not as useful as if you used them on time. If everyone doublevoted that's on Gokinjo, Gokinjo would be at 8. If Banbard did, Banbard would be at 6. The amount of people that vote are more valuable than the amount of points you get.

I just want some sort of consensus on a VII and XIII song since they rarely get any backing from what I've seen

I don't really know much about Final Fantasy music. Haven't played the games or listened to any of the songs. XIII... probably Blinded by Light? That's pretty good.

VII, I have a hard time naming tracks. Jenova's a good track, yeah. I think any of the battle themes would be good, really. Gold Saucer would possibly make a good choice as well. I like the regular battle theme the most myself.
