I admit I've only ever played Tenchu and Tenchu 2 so maybe they turned the series into an action game after that instead of a weird clunky stealth game, but it didn't look a whole lot like tenchu to me. It looked like a better realization of Nioh

Disregarding all the above nonsense, it's mainly for the cute characters and the good music. Touhou's world is probably my favorite japanese-based setting that I can think of and there's a lot of fascinating stuff to it. A world that's being held completely at balance between humans and monsters to the point where even conflicts are handled in bloodshed simulations rather than actual combat.

The games themselves are really nice, but there's so much fanwork that you basically have a ceaseless amount to enjoy. Touhou actually got me into manzai comedy with the Comedy Grand Prix videos that have been translated on youtube. It was also a gateway into J-pop for me, which was something I always wrote off and disregarded. There's a ton I honestly have to be thankful for towards it in terms of entertainment

You have no basis of reasoning to believe that. It's entirely possible the kid insisted that the teacher use his preferred first name and escalated the issue when he refused. If you're going to take the most charitable possible scenario based on no actual evidence from the article, then of course it's going to seem reasonable. In your fictional world where the guy was arbitrarily a dick to the kid and the last name had nothing to do with it, I completely agree the guy had every right to be fired. We have no idea if that was the case.

I have a basis to believe that because everything in the article infers and points towards that. Not everything needs to be handfed to you. Even without the background knowledge I have that schools, even small public schools, are almost always absolutely desperate not to lose employees over anything if they can help it for fear of lawsuits and bad PR, you scarcely need more information than what's there to come to a logical conclusion

I'm not going to argue about it with you further because I've multiple times seen that you'd basically argue with a tree stump if you thought it leaned liberal, but being incapable of reading the situation beyond the article was too funny not to point out

Very mixed feelings on this. I don't think schools should be compelling speech of any kind if they're publicly funded. I'm also surprised that they didn't agree to the last-name proposal. But, I do think on an individual basis a teacher shouldn't have a problem calling a student by whatever name/nickname they prefer. It is something teachers do for most students anyway. Although I don't think there's enough empirical evidence yet to support Paulsen's argument that not using someone's preferred name contributes to suicide and mental illness. At least not enough evidence to justify a government-funded institution compelling speech.

He literally had no choice but to use the name the student wanted or get fired. He couldn't use the student's old name. He couldn't use the student's last name. Are you suggesting it's not compelled speech because he could technically just go the rest of the student's high school education without addressing the student even once?

Jesus, it's not that hard. The article states that the teacher was forced to resign because he "refused to refer to a transgender student by their preferred name." It goes on to state that he disagreed with the idea of doing it, offering to call them by their last name.

When we apply a small amount of deductive reasoning we realize: this would not have happened and would not have been an issue if it was not reported by someone. Thus it lends to logic that something happened to get things to the point we are at now where a policy was violated and his attempt at offering a compromise to it was not accepted. He wasn't reported or let go just because he was calling the kid by their last name, and he even calls him only using the last name an "accommodation" for himself, which is hysterical in its own right.

I think it's stupid not to call someone what they want to be called. So many people shorten their names, use a middle name, use a stage name. Why do they only have an issue with people that want to be called a name of a gender they don't identify with.

Because he doesn't like transsexuals. I mean, it's pretty obvious just from reading his statements and talking about how he feels like calling someone by their preferred name is "taking a side." And someone who is making something like this an issue is probably not going to provide a very supportive atmosphere for students in that situation.

Metallica is notably better than the others for the three for the four albums they made that are actually worth listening to. Slayers first two albums are masterpieces but everything after is a downhill slope. Megadeth is overwhelmingly mediocre and outside of s few great halves of albums can be mostly disregarded and anthrax just sort of sucks

The funny thing is that that bootstrap rhetoric hasn't really gone anywhere here. When confronted with a situation where something bad is happening to someone they object to the reaction is generally "your fault, should have tried harder, should have known better, you aren't being oppressed" just as it always has. If anything, it's actually probably redoubled since things bullshit like the Tea Party aftermath and gamergate.

It's just that more and more people are pushing back against them now that they're being more open about it, so there's a complete zero-irony horror at the prospect of people being critical towards their beliefs that manifests itself in the form of a victim complex or stupid observations where they try to compare themselves to people with actual relevant social issues attatched to them
