In all fairness, Ghostbusters 2016 was actually hot garbage.

I'm not really a huge fan of the original Ghostbusters, so to me it was pretty much the same mediocrity as before. But Kate McKinnon is always Kate McKinnon.

Except there was writing, a coherent plot and subtlety to the original one that was completely absent in this one. They skip around a bit and then it relies too much on OMG SPEAKING LOUDLY LOL and tired sight humor gags that have outrun their course since 1997.

it seems clear you disagree with any form of action unless it, in and of itself, resolves every single issue with something. no "steps" towards a solution/future allowed.

Well I would have thought that I pretty clearly don't think this is a step in the right direction. But let me clarify:
I think it's a step in the wrong direction. This is a complicated and tricky issue that will definitely not be solved over night, but I think Denmark's ban makes it worse.

A crude analogy would be something like this. Let's say a school has a huge bullying problem, then they place a ban on being bullied. That doesn't help the people that get bullied, nor does it do anything to dissuade bullies from doing what they're doing. I hope now that you more clearly understand my point of view.

It kinda is though. Yes, it technically describes anything that covers the face, but pretending that this isn't driven by the public debate on burqas is very disingenuous.
And banning burqas means de facto banning these already oppressed women from public spaces, which is a little problematic.

I'll have to brush up on my D. Last I remember, it was still awkward to work with because of the standard library split and lack of documentation. I do remember that the syntax and idioms felt very natural and comfortable for me to write in though.

That's not the case anymore, the current D has just one standard library. And if you wanna work with SDL there are bindings for that as well, which AFAIK map quite 1:1 to the C lib:

I want to learn C++ because of how mainstream it is. I'm willing to suffer through some bulls*** to understand what game devs in the late 90s/early 00s had to put up with.

The worst bullshit they had to put up with (IMO) was interfacing with the GPU. I mean sure, if you wanna learn legacy DirectX and OpenGL have fun, but GPU standards these days have made things a lot easier anyway. The language C++ is just (well, this is a simplification) really clunky syntax to add templates and OO to C. If you're going embedded, you'll probably want to stick with C anyway.

Oh yeah, the ability to access a byte array with an arbitrary struct pointer is really sweet. I did that once at uni when they wanted us to make a file system with pages and stuff. They had made a skeleton for the exercise in JAVA of all things. I threw up in my mouth then I went and did it in D. It was beautiful.

I don't want to use C++, that's the thing. There's no point in having to define a function twice, but I also want to use pointers.

I don't think anyone wants to use C++.

So use D. It offers exactly what you describe.

...and you can use pointers in C#, it's just that most likely you won't need it. And if you're doing pointer arithmetic in C++, chances are you're doing it wrong.

Because it shrinks the galaxy. Part of the appeal for me with a space opera is that it's set in a huge galaxy and that there are so many new things to discover. Reusing characters as Easter eggs (like the droids, Chewie and the Fetts in the PT, or the wanted in 12 star systems guy in RO, or this) undermines that completely.
