as you may have heard, a new tactic into getting into your accounts is by

1) calling up your carrier and tricking them into thinking you got a new phone and need your new sim card activated, giving them the ability to get your texts. they then go onto websites and are able to reset your password via SMS verification

2) the same thing, but instead of tricking them, they just set up a new phone plan and ask to port your number to it. really easy to do now that all our social security numbers were leaked (remember?)

SMS verification sucks but 90% of websites use it and its terrible. so i called up my phone carrier and set up a password/code verification before they'll give up my number.

still, im sure theres ways around it, but its at least little bit safer.

i hated that whenever i got a new phone, i would first have to deactivate all my 2fa things, then brave out into the world UNPROTECTED until i got a new phone. then i had to sit there and one by one go and put them on again.

but Authy backs up to the cloud, (encrypted of course).

so if i get a new phone, i just put in my info and bam, they're all back.
